This is what a router does. The wire that now goes from the computer to the modem goes to the router into the port marked wan. Then you plug your computers into the ports marked lan. On a typical router you will be able to connect 4 computers. They will all be able to get out to the internet and will be able to see and share files from each other. You should be able to find a router for $20-$40. Then you will want to figure out where to run the wires so you know if you need to buy cables and what length they need to be.

If you want to spend a bit more money you can go wireless. This will mean buyng a wireless router instead of a wired. (the wireless does wifi and still has the 4 wired ports) and then you will need a wifi network card for each computer. Most laptops have wifi built in so no need to buy anything for them. Wifi is nice as you don't have cables to worry about or trip over and you can move around the house. If you have a laptop you can wander around the yard. Very nice to go out and watch movies etc in the back yard some days.

So to get a wired setup you wil need a wired router, and two cables. For wireless you need a wireless router and wifi cards for each device if not equipped. The wired setup is faster and cheaper but more of a fixed location setup. The wifi seup costs a bit more, is about 1/2 to 2/3 the speed but gives you a bit of freedom to change or move.

When i on my desktop it show blue screen and says no signal analog

That means that the monitor is not getting a signal from the computer. There are several possible issues involved. 1) Make sure that the computer tower is on. 2) Check that the video cable is connected to the active port on the desktop. (Computers often have video connections on the motherboard and an added video card. The motherboard connection is disabled when the video card is active. Similarly if there are several ports (VGA, DVI, HDMI, Display port) only one may be active.) 3) Try a new video cable (if possible) and one of the other video ports (again if possible). 4) Try connecting a different monitor to the computer or connecting this monitor to another computer.

Open up the computer and check if the card requires a separate power connection to the power supply. Make sure it is plugged in. Do the fans in the computer spin up?

If a second monitor doesn't work or the monitor works on another computer, then the problem is with the video adapter on the computer, the power supply or the power switch. Please add a comment with more information about the type of desktop and the current video graphics adapter (on the motherboard or separate card). I will provide additional help if possible.

Cindy Wells
(who has a computer in the company that needed a new monitor (power supply failed) a few months ago and lost the fan on the video card last week. Without the fan, the card overheated and shut down. Thus no signal to the monitor.)

Laptop connected to projector get initial message "no signal" then projector continually searches through video, computer 1 and computer 2 - what do I do?

Make sure that you have enabled the 2nd screen output from the laptop. It sounds like there is no signal at the input of the projector. You can check this by connecting a monitor to the 2nd output of the laptop. Often you have to press one of the function keys (F5 possibly) to enable the 2nd screen from a laptop.

No connectivity to 2nd desktop or laptop - although worked before

Hello....sudden loss of wireless on two computers, in the same home, may indicate that a powerful source of wireless interference has just arrived (since your wireless router light is still on).

1) Does the signal improve if you move the router, or move the laptop closer to the router?
2) Have you had any success with changing the channel on your router? (Login to router > select Wireless Settings > Channel)

If you have not moved furniture yourself, or installed a device which could interfere with the signal (eg a DECT phone), it's possible a neighbour's new router may be the culprit.

Please come back to Fixya if this does not help.

I have a 2 year old CTX S760A monitor, when I switch on the computer the monitor switches on and off several times about 25-30 times before stabilising. It works well after that. This has been happening...

First, I would try connecting a different monitor if possible. If the problem persists, it would be a problem with your computers video card. If the 2nd monitor works fine, then your monitor is at fault and may need to be replaced.
