If you are connecting via HDMI, it is also possible that the source is the problem. If the programing is not sending an audio in the manner that is expected by the tv you can sometimes lose one or more audio (you might hear the background noises but no speech or vice versa). Check the source device's audio settings.

Volume button sticks and raises to max level and cannot be turned down.

It sounds from your description there is a fault in the audio section electronics rather than with the button.

My speaker volume is very low no matter what i play. All volume controls are up as high as they will go

Have you checked your system audio volume?
If you are using Windows XP go to Start menu -> Accessories -> Entertainment -> Volume Control

Make sure that the volume is set to the highest value.

Amplifier cuts off after raising the volume

just a tad is all that it takes to throw it in protect mode so check the gain and the cross over and make sure they are set at a decent level and see if that works a little bit

There's no audio coming out on my computer. Do I need an installer software to make it work?

lets just go stepwise

1. check to see if the Audio drivers are installed in the device manager if not then you might have to install them
2. check to see if the Volume button on the task bar beside the time is not showing mute symbol and the volume is raised
3. if no then double click on the speaker symbol and in the properties check to see that none of the other tabs are on the mute or at very low volume
4. now check to see that the speaker jack is connected to the right colour coded jack on the PC and the volume is appropriately high

Speaker error

Generally, an indication of "speaker error" means that something hashappened to an internal circuit of the unit. This can be caused byover-heat or over-current conditions which sometimes are due to runningthe volume high. If your problem occurred during a very loud passage ofaudio on the TV, this may be the cause of the problem. If so, it willnot matter which input you feed the TV sound into. In fact, the sameproblem might occur running the DVD player. The shut down condition inthe Yamaha is a protective circuit that keeps the unit from beingdamaged.

Now--it may well be that you were not running high volume at all andthe same problem could occur due to heat build up in the amplifier orto a circuit problem. If the system is in a warm area of your home, this may raise the internal temperature of the sub high enough totrigger the shut down. I do notthink that an external source is the reason for the problem--unless, ofcourse, the input signal level is too high and causes the volume to gohigh.

If you have the unit closed up in a shelf whith limited ventilation orthe sub is located where it has no cooling air, that could also be acause for the problem. You may want to try changing locations of theunit and see what happens. If you still have the problem, I recommendthat you go up on the Yamaha web site (www.yamaha.com) and click ontheir customer service area. Then ask about the problem and see whatthey recommend.

make sure the surround is off. Also, there is a setting on the remote that changes the volume on certain speakers. I think its 'CH.SELECT'. Just lower the front speaker and raise the center channel.
