The Yellow Ink Tank ran out of ink. I replaced it as usual with the proper Ink Tank. But this time in the display window it stated a code error which reads: 6A00 ERROR code. And also, the alarm light which is yellow is blinking. I don't know what is wrong!
I've had the printer since about 2005.
Please if you have any suggestions...I would greatly appreciate it.
After replacing one of the black ink cartridges, alarm lights & states a couple of errors, improper insertion of cartridge or duplicate color...Pressing reset is ineffective. Sometimes it prints, sometimes I get error msg.
You can also add these reset steps found on this site, How to reset canon mp500. I used this as a reference on my 2 canon printers and so far it is helping me for a while now. I hope it will work for you too.

E5 - The ink cartridges are not installed or a non-supported ink
cartridge is installed , or the ink cartridges are not installed
In certain models of Canon Pixma printers such as the Canon MP160 and
Canon MP150, you may receive an E5 error when trying to print. In this
state, you will not be able to use any of the functions of your
printer. The error itself is an ink cartridge error. It may be that you
are using generic or off-brand ink cartridges in your Canon Pixma
printer. Canon Pixma printers do not work with other brands of print
cartridges; invest in Canon brand ink cartridges and this should take
care of your problem.
Hi. I think the problem on that one is the waste ink tank is already full, so you need to clean it or replace the pads on it, because when you are printing or opening your printer it blows little amount of ink to the heads so that it will not be clogged, and that ink goes into the used/waste ink tank. Also after cleaning the used/waste ink tank you need to reset the counter of the printer so that it would print again, you can just download the counter reset software over the internet or just bring that machine to an authorize canon printer technician. Hope this Helps
That is a common problem on all Canon printers, the purge assembly on the right where the printhead parks, has a pump inside and hoses that go to the filters and ink absorbers. When that unit goes out you need a replacement. A job best done in a shop. When the printhead is not cleaned and primed properly you get blank pages no matter how full the inks are.
I have a PIXMA MP 750 and months ago my yellow ink stopped printing. I was only able to use the printer for black and white printing. Every once in awhile I would try multiple deep cleans, new ink cartridges, etc. etc. I talked to the very unhelpful folks at Canon who suggested a new print head ($70), but they couldn't guarantee this would actually work. They really thought it would be best just to buy a new printer.
Although I was feeling bad about adding yet another cheap printer to the landfill I'd pretty much decided to get a new printer. As a last resort I decided to use a suggestion I came across (at pcuser.com) to run hot water through the print head. It was easy to remove the print head (check your manual). I propped the head up in my dish drainer and ran hot water straight from the tap first through the end with the little circular parts and then through the end with the metal strips. I eventually used boiling water from the kettle.
As I poured water through one end I started to see yellow ink coming though the other end so I figured the ink had dried in the head. I kept pouring water through (from both ends) until the water ran clear. I dried the print head, put it back in with the cartridges and VOILA! after MONTHS without yellow ink it's working beautifully again!
If you've tried everything else and feel desperate enough to buy a new printer you might want to try this and report back.
The 6A00 is a Canon generic code for paper path jam.
Solution 1: Move the printhead carriage back and forth a few times.
Solution 2: Check the purge unit: Moving the print head assembly will not clear a purge unit if its jammed with paper, paper clips, push pins, screws, cookie crisp, flower bud pods or the like.
Solution 3: Press the ink pads down in the purge unit. Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.

Replace a new Canon ink cartridgeas it could be due to the unique features that Canon has build on their ink cartridge not done properly which resulted to be faulty.Report the issue to Canon if your existing ink cartridge is not from other 3rd party band, Canon should be able to do 1 to 1 exchange once confirmed that it is their ink cartridge problem. Cannon has build the unique feature to prevent users from misusing 3rd party ink cartridge on their printer.
Other times if by replacing new ink cartridge the problem for error code still occurs, it might be the pin on the print-head has lost the alighting, this will require for Canon to service to alight back the pin on print-head in order for the printer to operate smoothly again.
Or missing pin has dropped off from the print-head which causes the printer not able to read the ink cartridge, printer needs to be serviced.
(Maybe check with your own nearby technician if by any lucks they can help to rescue your printer, which I hope Canon does not have further enhancement on their printer with other Unique features to prevent users from using 3rd party technical support.)
