Question about Jenn-Air Ovens

1 Answer

I tried to use the self cleaning feature last night. After 30minutes of it working fine a chime began to go off and the control panel showed F4. I couldn't get the chime to stop so I pushed cancel. Now I am wanting to know what to do so I can use the self cleaning feature.

    Hi Lee,

thanks for getting back to me. I have a Jenn-Air Grill-Range with Self-Cleaning Conventional and convection oven. Model is SVE47600. I just put it back on cleaning and it appears to be preparing to clean. It shows "clean" and below that "lock". Earlier today I put it on convectional bake to heat up some quiche and a few times, maybe three it beeped again and this time showed F5. I hit the timer and it would stop. I imagine these things are related. Please if you have the solution I will be so grateful.

    Thanks, Kim

Hi,
First of what is the model of the unit? What happens when you go back into self cleaning mode? How long have you owned the unit? Once I have more information I can assist you further.
Thank you,
Lee

Sounds like a control board issue. Check to see if that particular gives any error codes if you can. FYI a new board is probably about 200 bucks.

most ovens use a cut in limpet themostat(sometimes called button stat) typically normally open and closed at 40deg c. it will be this that will be not resetting to the open position at room temp. on rarer models the timer controls the cooling fan. some models of aeg and electrolux have a thermal delaying device located in abulb in the wiring loom. hope this helps

I have a Whirlpool electric build in oven with self-cleaning feature. It is about 8 years old and we just used the self-cleaning feature for the first time last week. The oven was not that dirty, but...

Your thermal fuse or TOD mounted to the back of the oven went out during the self clean,it shuts off the power to the elements.
The oven must be removed from the wall to change this.

Dead Whirlpool Double Oven

This happened to us the first time we used the self-cleaning feature. The repairman said we had to replace the whole electronic panel -- but when he put in the new panel it didn't work either. It turned out he just needed to replace the oven shutdown thermal fuse I believe. We finally got up enough courage to try the self-cleaning again and the exact thing happened. The door is locked and the electronic panel is dead again. So when we get it fixed we will never use the self-clean again.

The F4 error code generally means a bad temperature sensor or a short in leads to the sensor. Under room temperature conditions the resistance should be approximately 1100 ohms. If you are not comfortable around electrical apparatus and/or don't have an ohmmeter, you will need to contact an appliance repair technician. GE typically places a trouble shooting guide in the top of their ovens behind the touchpanel. You will have to remove three screws in the bottom of the touchpanel to open the panel. Be sure and turn off the power before opening the touchpanel!!!
