Question about Whirlpool GD2SHGX Refrigerator

Open Question

Icemaker inop I just replaced my water filter last week on my Whirlpool Gold side by side. After a week went by I noticed that my icemaker wasn't making ice. The best I can remeber water was still coming out of the door. But I didn't turn the filter all of the way so when I noticed the icemaker not making ice I check the filter and it was loose so I turned it on and could hear the water going in and I had to drain the door water spout until I got a full stream out of it. But the ice maker is not still making ice. What did I do and how do I fix it?

SOURCE: icemaker want stop making ice

The quick answer is to turn the water off to the refrigerator so it quits making until you get it fixed.
If your fridge has the control boards in each side of the freezer cabinet that controls the icemaker, then you have a failed board.
If you have a standard icemaker with the metal shutoff arm then you have a failed motor module in the icemaker.
You can remove the icemaker and unplug the wiring connector from it so you can leave the water on to the dispenser.
Post back if you need instructions on reparing it.

SOURCE: Whirlpool Gold refrigerator water leaking

If it's flooding, it's NOT the drain pan. It's probably the water valve has gotten stuck in the open position. Hope this helps!

Icemaker overflows water , repairman has replaced the icemaker twice, after this last time, it started making 1 tray of cubes per week, then after about 2 weeks, started overflowing water again.

Good day,
If it is erratic as you describe and replacing the ice maker twice has not resolved the issue it would make sense to replace the water valve in the back rear of the machine, if it hasn't been done so yet. It's the flakiest part of the system and has the highest failure rate. It's been known to fill too little, to much, and sometimes not at all.

Ice machine isn't working

Two things come to mind.

First, the water valve at the bottom rear of the refrigerator may have failed. You didn't mention if there is a water dispenser and whether or not this is still working. This valve pumps water to the icemaker and water dispenser when the control unit of the icemaker calls for water. Also, there could be a blockage in the line which brings the water to the icemaker.

The other possibility is that the part of the icemaker controls which calls for water from the valve has failed. If this has happened, it would likely be more cost effective to replace the icemaker unit.

Ice maker not producing any ice.

Pour about 1/2 cup of water into icemaker . Squeeze the black fill tub which is above the icemaker cup . If ice apears to be in it , this indicates that the weter valve is not completely closing , letting a drip ocasionally go thru and freezing inside the tube , ( water valve bad ) . that will be a different solution . If the icemaker dumps the cubes after freezing . and black tube is not frozen , replace the water inlet valve . If the icemaker does not dump the ice after frozen , replace the icemaker ( only 1 screw holds the icemaker in , located on rear portion on right , faceing down . Also check the icemaker rake , which should be about the 2:30 position . To thaw out the black tube (which runs thru the top of the refrig ) a 1/4 push on connector will be needed . Remove the icemaker and use a hairdryer aimed up into the hole . Cut the tubing to the fill tub behind the fridge about 9 inches from where it enters the top of the fridge . This will let warm air inside the top fill line to help thaw . Ocassionally blow thru the 9 inch tube until you can blow thru it . May take a day or 2 , depending how frozen the line is . Once air will go thru , install the push on connector to couple the cut lines back togather .

The blinking red light on the right side , is the receiver for the electric eye for cutting off the icemaker when the door bin is full , This blinking is normal . 2 blinks ...pause...2 blinks..etc .

Do not replace the filter if water flow is good thru the dispensor .

Whirlpool refrigerator icemaker does not dispense ice cubes

I don't think the ice maker liked the water being turned off. Usually there is an arm that will raise up to a catch position that will turn the ice maker off. I hate to say it, but ice makers are best to replace than repair. The internal parts are difficult to change, and with a new one you will have no problems. They are not too hard to change. Shop around for a good deal, I use e-bay.

Icemaker not working

Try using an hairdryer or defrosting the unit completely , this often get rid of blockage caused by frozen lines fixing the problem.

The water lines can also be unblocked from dirt using a thin flexible shaft. This after defrosting.

If all that does not fix the problem, then you may need to replace the water valve, the icemaker solenoid, or the whole icemaker assembly.
