I recently purchased a Sansa Clip MP3. I downloaded audiobooks to it but they will not play. What do I need to do?

  • Anonymous Apr 29, 2010

I have a friend who has a Sandisk product and listens to audiobooks on it. Mine is a Clip Plus and it will download the book but will not play it. It downloaded in six sections but will not play any of them.

Not true!!! The Sansa Clip is actually the best mp3 player I have found for listing to audiobooks. Here is what you need to do. Download the latest firmware update on the Sandisk website. You must do this or it just won't work unless you are downloading books from Audible.

I use the Overdrive Media Console and download mp3 and WMA books from my state library. When you hit transfer, be sure it hit advanced options. Browse until you select the audiobook folder on your player. Then transfer to that.

The player will bookmark your last place on anything that is in your audiobook folder. You can easily switch back and forth between your music and book without losing your place! Love it!

It even has a sleep timer on it. I'm in heaven.

Hi all,
neutron_bob has written the definitive troubleshooting guide for 'synchronize to continue your music subscription,' here:

http://sansa.lithium.com/t5/Clip-Clip/synchronize-to-continue-your-music-subscription/m-p/188468

It seems to work for Sansa Clip and Sansa Fuze.
I download books on a desktop computer running Win XP Professional, thru Overdrive Media Console.
Here are the notes I made of the process to fix my own Sansa Fuze player with my system. Your solution may be slightly different with a different operating system, etc;

Thanks, Neutron Bob!!!

Your method works for Sansa Fuse as well!
To recap (for when I need to do this next year, and have forgotten how):

1) Switch Sansa Fuse to MTP Mode;
Settings > System Settings > USB Mode > MTP -- Leave the Sansa Fuze in MTP mode.

2) Plug the Sansa Fuze into the Computer, Confirm it is in MTP mode.
Start > My Computer -- Sansa Fuze appears under 'Other' , not with a drive letter.

3) Reset registry for Sansa Fuze
Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > Portable Device
Select Sansa Fuze
Uninstall
Wait 30 seconds

4) Restart the Computer

5) Plug in Sansa Fuze

6) Start OverDrive Media Console

7) Download books from OverDrive Media Console to Sansa Fuze

I sympathize with geriwasson. My clip plays WMA audiobooks no problem, but it won't download or play MP3 audiobook files. I have to drag Netlibrary downloads into the audiobook folder via Windows and then find and play them in MTP mode. WTF? Surely MP3 audiobooks are very common??

Are you using Overdrive media console to get the books off the internet? If so, then when you are in Overdrive, hit the transfer button. Then hit next. Then hit advanced options. You will see the field called "player folder". Look at that. You will probably see that it is pushing your mp3 book to the "music" folder. Delete the word music and type "audiobooks" in its place. Then hit ok and then next. That will put the mp3 book in the audiobooks folder on your player. Then it should work fine. Just be sure you have downloaded the latest firmware update off their website first.

I can download free audiobooks to my macbook pro, how do i transfer them to my sandisk sana clip

Connect the supplied USB cable from your player to the USB port on your MAC. The MAC will detect this player and your can then copy the audiobooks from the MAC to the Scandisk.
If the Scandisk cannot play the audiobooks then they are in the wrong file format. Then they need to be converted to the file format that the Scandisk uses.

How do I download an audiobook to my sansa clip 8gb

MP3 players can only play music and audio files in mp3 file format. You can download mp3 music files from the Internet toyour computer and then copy them to your MP3 player. For your CD collection, you need to convert your CDs tomp3 music files onto your computer or download them from the Internet and thencopy them to your MP3 player after you have connected the USB cable tothe MP3 player and the computer.
You can do this using Windows Media player and Rip the CDs - Media Player willcreate a MP3 music file for each music track. Click on this link for instruction on converting musicfiles to mp3 file format :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r5798418-creating_transferring_mp3_music_files

I cannot listen to an "audible" book on my sansa player. I get the error message "please activate device with audible manager to play this title". I don't know what audible manager...

"Audible" books are copy protected to prevent unauthorized copying or sharing.
Download the Audible Manager software from http://www.audible.com/sw
When you load that software and sign on to your Audible.com account, you will be able to sync the information into the Sansa player that will authorize the audiobook to play on the Sansa.

Won't load audiobook because clock is not set

Had the same problem - used this solution from ehow.com at this web address: http://www.ehow.com/how_5180421_troubleshoot-sansa-clip-mp.html Worked and now I'm transferring my book from overdrive - hope it helps. Reset the Clip by holding the On/Off switch in the On position for approximately 20 seconds. Release the switch, then attach it to the USB adapter to charge it. This process can help when the Clip does not appear to be working at all.

Downloading info from the computer to the Sansa

Here is the link to the full user manual, which will be helpful:
http://www.sandisk.com/assets/File/Downloads/user-guides/clip-usermanual.pdf

This player will only play eBooks in the loosest sort of way - the ebook MUST be in mp3 format. It will not save chapter bookmarks or play in the right order unless you manually edit the id3 tag for each chapter of the audiobook.

Can not play audible book

Go into the Music submenu, and then keep pressing the downward part of the wheel until the "Audiobooks" option comes up. If you don't have any audiobooks loaded, then it MIGHT be greyed out (then again, I have no audiobooks on my player and I still have the option). The manual has the correct instructions, it just doesn't include pictures.

Sansa Clip Audiobook Question

Once I downloaded the newest firmware the audiobooks folder started showing up in the windows file explorer. So now I don't have to worry about using media player or anything else. I just plug in my sansa clip, open windows file explorer and drag the folders (1 for each disk) onto my player (into the audiobooks folder).

Here's the link for the download. If it doesn't come up you might want to reformat your sansa clip.
