Question about Dell E173FP 17" LCD Monitor

Monitor does awake from sleep mode

When I step away from my computer and it goes into sleep mode, I'm unable to awaken the monitor. After moving the mouse, the power button on the monitor simply flashes green. I am unable to turn on the monitor by quickly pressing or holding down the button. The button just keeps flashing. Even when I unplug then replug, the button flashes without displaying a picture.

Not sure how to get into the menu settings since I'm not getting any image on the display.

  • madelman547 Apr 28, 2010

Ahhh. Thanks for the clarification. Unfortunately, I fear the problem is at the point of no return now as the power button won't stop flashing and there is no image displayed.

You need to perform this before the unit goes into sleep mode.

  • frankdanfelt May 11, 2010

Go into the menu settings on the monitor and set it to "Default"

You need to check the inverter fuse, transistors, caps, solder joints. Please see my pictures here to get some ideas so you will know what to look for inside.

The light is flashing because the power supply is in the shutdown/restart, it is sensing too much current draw. You will not get the display until you get the cause of the overload fixed.

My Dell monitor goes to sleep right after windows xp starts to load and it won't come on after that. my computer is still running but the monitor is a sleep. I have hit f8 and f12 with nothing happening....

Go into safe mode
Under settings, control panel, power options set "turn off monitor to never
reboot

I think this is not a sleep problem but the incorrect monitor settings were set. This will cause the screen to go black when the OS comes up. Boot in safe mode and change the display settings
to 640x480
OR
in safe mode, delete your monitor. When you reboot it will load a default monitor and you should be OK

How's the status light of your computer monitor? is it blinking amber? and the status light of your computer tower's power button? blinking amber as well or solid green or no light at all?

1. Disconnect all the connection at the back of your computer tower
2. Press the power button of the computer tower for 15 seconds
3. Reconnect the power button and the monitor cable at the back of your computer tower and turn on the computer (if it turned on that means that one of the device plugged at the back of your computer tower is faulty)
4. If still the same problem, open up your computer tower.
5. Reseat the video card, Reseat Hard drive, Reseat Memory, Reseat CPU, Reseat power cord coming from the CPU to your computer (doing all things one-by-one to pin-point the root cause of the issue)

If none of the troubleshooting steps fixed the problem, possible that the power supply is faulty and if the power supply is faulty sometimes it goes with the motherboard.

Acer V223W monitor goes to sleep and doesn't awake

Go To Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore. Select "restore my computer to an earlier date". Look at the LIST of Restore points. Find the DATE when this "Security Update" was installed and Select the last date before it was installed and Follow the "Wizard" to Restore it to BEFORE the Update you think CHanged Things. Too many variables to figure out without seeing it to determine what was changed but that will correct the situation and you will not loose anything.

Monitor

Double check the monitor cable, both going to the monitor, and going to the computer. Ensure it's securely connected. If this doesn't change anything, try rebooting your computer. When the power light flashes, it's in sleep mode and doesn't detect either an analog or digital signal - so either your computer has gone into sleep mode (you can awaken it by hitting any key or moving the mouse) or the cable isn't attached securely. Since your computer is brand new, it's unlikely that anything has broken down already. Another thing to check is to make sure that the resolution in your Display Settings is the correct resolution for the monitor - although it's hard to do this if you can't see what you're doing.

Best of luck, hope this helps!

Hit the keyboard keys. It is better to just turn sleep and hibernate off and just use a screen saver or tun it off.
