Hi, I;ve had many problems with this model too. Dont be scare. You have to put it flat on the table and while you press the latch you back to hit it towards the back kind of hard. (of course the PC has to be off)
P.S: some models have the hatch and a screw above. I hope this helps.

How do you lock it?

Hi Celsa,

Please follow the below instructions to unlock and lock depending on the series of sentry fire safe security you have.

H & F Series:

To unlock and open:
1. Insert key in lock and turn counterclockwise.
2. Apply downward pressure on top of the safe, while
pushing the latch in to release.

NOTE: Due to compression of the gasket, the
unit will require slightly more force
than a safe that does not have a gasket.

To close and lock:

1. Close and press down on lid to engage latch.
Safe can now be transported without locking it.
2. Insert key in lock and turn clockwise.

HD & FD Series:

To unlock and open:
1. Insert key in lock and turn clockwise.
2. Pull up from bottom
of latch while pushing
down on lid to release.

NOTE: Due to compression of the gasket, the
unit will require slightly more force
than a safe that does not have a gasket.

To close and lock:
1. Close and while pushing down on the lid, press down on
the latch until it is secure.
2. Insert key in lock and turn counterclockwise.

Hope this helps.

Can the case of the IBM 350 computer be opened without the latch?

No, the case cannot be opened without using the release latch (Button)

What I believe has transpired, is a situation that I ran into a few years ago, with a computer case that used a similar setup.

I'm afraid my solution won't sound very professional at first glance.

What transpired on the case in question that I was working on, is that the slide button for the latch had come loose, from the latch mechanism.

Come loose due to someone trying to forcibly open the case. They also bent 'Fingers' of the case, that holds the sliding latch mechanism in place.

I found the metal mechanism was made up of two parts, and a spring held the sliding part of the latch in the locked position.

Apparently someone had tried to access the case with the latch, and had no luck. Then they tried to use some sort of leverage device to force the case open, bending one of the two parts of the latch, and part of the case itself. ('Fingers')

The case has small metal 'Fingers' that hold the non-sliding part of the metal latch in place, and also the sliding part.

(Picture a small U shape, stamped into a flat piece of metal. The U shape is actually cut through the metal, with the top, or flat part not cut out.
Now bend the bottom of the U, out of the flat piece.
They sort of resemble 'Fingers')

These 'Fingers' are wrapped around the non-sliding part of the metal latch, and sliding part.
The keep the latch in place.

When bent out, they don't let the Sliding part of the latch, slide over all the way.

All the way, to release a hook at the end of the sliding part of the latch, out of a corresponding small rectangular hole in the computer case.

I had to use finesse, and a flat tip screwdriver. I had to insert the flat tip into the top edge of the panel, and slightly bend it out. (The top edge of the panel above the latch mechanism)

Then with the gap large enough, I slid the flat tip screwdriver down into the case, and proceeded to bend the 'Fingers' out further. When I bent two fingers on top far enough out, the latch mechanism was then loose enough to drop partially out.

I could then open the case. Once I saw how the makeup of the mechanism was made, I then proceeded to straighten the case back to where it was.

Straightened the parts of the metal latch, and reinstalled it into the cover panel, and re-bent the Fingers back into position.
Then I attached the spring, and adjusted the sliding latch to make sure it worked okay.

Sorry I was so lengthy, but after you have fixed your problem, I believe you'll find it is very hard to describe this latch, and how to fix a bent one.

I wish I could have just stated, 'Insert this tool here at this spot, and give it a click to the right'.

Fan really loud, probably full of dust. how to take the case off?

You will need to open the case by removing the screws or thumbscrews on the back, should be anywhere from 1 to 4. Make sure you disconnect the power and discharge any static charge by pressing the power button after plug is disconnected. Once the screws are removed slide the case side panel off, or open like a **** depending on case design. Once opened you should be able to see the heatsink/fan assembly sitting on top of the cpu. You should not need to disassemble it to clean it. Just spray it out thoroughly with a can of compressed air. Once clean put the case back together and reconnect power. If the noise still persists then it could be that a bearing has burned out on the fan and it will need replaced. You can buy a fan fairly cheap to replace. Hope this helps you out.

The power sliding passenger door will not open even manually. At first it didn't want to close, but after I slammed it shut it didn't want to open. A few days later I was trying to get the door panel off...

I think you have a latch issue or a latch release issue, pull the door panel and try and release the door latch, pull the latch and try to see what if anything is wrong with it, also make sure the linkage going to the latch from the release handle is hooked up or not otherwise damaged.

Opening the case to increase memory on Poweredge 1800

First, turn off the system including any attached peripherals, and disconnect the system from its electrical outlet.

1. Using the system key, unlock the front bezel.
2. Slide the latch right and pull the top edge of the bezel away from the front panel. Pivot the bezel downward until it is at an angle to the panel. Remove the bezel from the slots on the panel.
3. Loosen the three thumbscrews on the left side of the cover.
4. Grasp the cover at both ends and slide it towards the front of the system. And lift the cover away from the system.
5. Press the release tab on the front and back of Fan 2 assembly, then slide the fan assembly (black plastic shroud) up and out of the system
6. Disconnect the power cable for the Fan 2 assembly from the system board.

You can now access the six memory slots. Review System Memory / General Memory Module Installation Guidelines and carefully install the new memory modules.

I have provided some pictures below to help you.

Cabinet problem

Many cases have hidden latches. Examine the case carefully, along the various seams, and be aware that most have side covers that slide back about 1/2" then lift off.

How to open case of Acoustimass module

Just a bit more info...a bit more detail
Remove the two screws from the case at the back.
Sit the unit in normal upright position. Use a good torch and look at the back of the unit along the top seam where the plastic case joins the main body - there are three latches to disengage along this seam.
1. The thumbwheel which turns to the left & exposes the tab. This disengages a simple Tee'd section on the wheel which stops the case sliding down. As long as you can see the tab this is disengaged.
2 & 3. On the far left & far right of the seam are simple lever latches which must be pushed back towards the main body to allow the rear case to slide down. Push these in then the case will slide down quite easily.
