What do you mean by installing driver after format? Format is a command that destroy all the data on your harddisk and creates new file system. This means that if you have formated your harddisk it is more or less probable that you don't have operating system anymore, so there is nothing to boot. I need more information to help you.
Yep, you've found Comcrap's deep dark secret. On the older ones, laptops especially, the bios file is on the hard drive, not the board! So if you re-formatted, you really messed up. You'll have to beg Compaq & fight with support until they release thier holy grail, the bios file, which is different on each pc. Also you need the version you can install on the drive BEFORE you install it into the pc & re-install windows. No,I've never succeded in doing this & after way too much time spent on trying to make an old pc work I junked it like almost every Comcrap I get. HP's just as bad & if I told you the recent story of my encounter with thier support that ended 3 days later with the head of production calling me, you'ld be laughing & maybe crying after. BTW HP & Compaq are the same company & have been since the early '90's. Hope this helps..kinda doubt it.
You need to either reinstall windows, or take the hard drive out, hook it up as a spare drive to a working computer and copy NTDLR to the root of the laptop hard drive. It would be much easier to reinstall windows. You can always use the recovery portion of Windows, but if I were you I would just do a format and reinstall. NTDLR is just a startup file for Windows XP, that does not mean your hard drive is gone or anything. Please don't forget to rate!..Thanks
DEAR, 1. install XP service pack 2, format in Fat(32) or NTFS system file, 2. delete the partitions 3. restart your computer with XP service pack 2 4. dont format as quick format, 5. do full format 6. XP service pack 2 serial key: XP8BF-F8HPF-PY6BX-K24PJ-TWT6MA
Do you have the recovery cd's. If so boot from the recovery cd#1 and follow the prompt to format and install your OS.
If you don't have the recovery cd's, You can use a WinXP cd if your license is on a sticker on your computer.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it. Thanks, Joe
