When you remove the front door on the heater the upper panel has two screws that go straight up into the edge of it from below. Remove these and the panel slides straight down. Then you have two screws in the bottom of the screen and that will tip up and out. But the wires you are looking for are inside the top front cover.

Boiler without flame sensor

Sounds like the hot surface igniter is also a local sensor. If you unplug the molex 2 wire plug of the igniter, and turn your meter to resistance, I found that it should read under 110 Ohms. If it is over that amount, the igniter may not sense the flame. Replace the hot surface igniter.

Whirlpool kenmore direct drive washers no spin or drain. Lid switch replacement...

Here are some step by step instructions, They seem daunting, but what do you have to loose by trying yourself?

Depending on your model there are a couple different varieties, but the most common one was a switch activated by a plunger on the side of the lid. See if you can see the plunger and look for the corresponding hole that it would go into on the top, and there is your lid switch. The purpose of the switch is to stop the tub from spinning when you open the lid during spin cycle. Broken switch equates to no spin or drain however even with the lid closed.
Here are some basic instructions:

Accessing this part requires you to first flip up the control panel by: Removing two phillips head screws in the front bottom corners of the control panel, or the rear lower corners of the control panel.
*NOTE for some Kenmore models it may be necessary to remove the endcap covers to expose the screws on the front of the console*
The most recent designs have spring clips under the left and right sides of the control panel that need to be depressed with a putty knife to release them. Pull the panel forward and lift to disengage the tabs at the bottom. Flip the panel upwards and it will swing back out of the way.

Next you will see one wire connector going into the top of the machine, this is actually your lid switch connector, disconnect it (all the rest of the wires will route behind the top of the machine, between the top and the rear panel).
Now using a flat blade screwdriver pry the front of the two brass colored clips towards the rear of the washer (put tip of screwdriver into front most part of clip and press handle of screwdriver towards rear of machine). The clips should pop off the top pretty easily.
Now you can open the lid and place a hand on the front of the opening and pull the cabinet forward. The entire front and side wrapper will come off the base platform and you can set it on the floor to gain access to the inside of the cabinet where the lid switch is mounted and the wires are routed.

Good luck to you!!

Trying to take off the back and top control panel of my Kenmore Elite top load washing machine so I can replace the lid switch and timer, any help would be appreciated.

It is rare that a lid switch and timer both need replacing.
The 2 ends caps on the control panel will snap off.
Once they are removed, take out the 2 screws on the right and left front sides of the control panel that holds the panel to the top.
Fold the control panel to the rear of the machine.
Unplug the lid switch wire.
Remove the 2 S clips holding the rear panel to the cabinet.
Pull the cabinet forward to remove it.
The lid switch is then accessible inside the cabinet.
Reverse this procedure to re-assemble.

The switch # 3949238 on my kenmore washer #110.29842991 is broken. how do I remove the top cabinet so I can replace the part?b

Disconnect the power first.

Many washers have spring clips holding the lid in place, and a putty knife or scraper can be shimmied in to compress the clips and open the lid for service.

Some units, esp old Maytags, have 2 screws near the bottom of the front panel, and removing them will let the front panel tilt out, granting access to the top cover from the front.

Some later Whirlpool and Kenmore units have a cabinet that comes off in one piece. You'll need to remove 2 screws holding the splash panel to the top of the washer. Flip the panel up giving access to the timer/switches area. Disconnect the white plastic wire connector, then use a screwdriver to pop the metal clips in the corner. Set these aside, and the whole cabinet will tilt forward, and can then be lifted off the washer base/back. Space to work will be an advantage, for this type of cabinet.

Laars 400-LT: Do I need to remove the rear panel of the housing in order to replace the igniter ? How do I remove the back panel (it is up against the wall with only 6-8 inch clearance). I can not see but...

THe ignitor is right inside the front cabinet 2/3 of the way up from the bottom. It uses 2 wires and can be easily accessed in a matter of minutes.
There are no repairs short of a ful heat exchanger replacement that will ever require you to access the rear panel.

ABove is the link for the LT manual which shows where to find the ignitor.
The ignitor is part number 44 in the list.

Washer won't drain

Check your lid switch.. If it stops at the spin cycle and will not drain or spin, it is possible that the switch is broken. There is a small tab on the lid that activated the lid switch lever..

See if you can see the plunger and look for the corresponding hole that it would go into on the top, and there is your lid switch. The purpose of the switch is to stop the tub from spinning when you open the lid during spin cycle. Broken switch equates to no spin or drain however even with the lid closed.

How to replace the ignition spark ignitor for Maytag MDG9700AWW - Thanks.

Access to the igniter (part #35001100) requires the removal of the top cover, console, and the front panel. Disconnect power to the dryer prior to servicing to avoid the risk of electric shock.

Remove the top cover by removing the two 10-mm screws attaching it to the rear of the dryer then slide the cover rearward and lift it off the dryer cabinet. Take note of the notch in the top cover engaging the screw on the cabinet during reassembly.

Remove the two screws mounting the heater PCB board to the cabinet then disconnect the black and white connectors from the board.

Remove the four screws securing the console to the cabinet then rotate the console down and remove it from the dryer.

Remove the four screws securing the top of the front panel to the cabinet and the two screws at the lower portion of the door opening. Once the screws are removed, lean forward the top of the front panel and disconnect the interior light harness. Lift the panel to disengage the three tabs securing its bottom to the base of the dryer and move the panel away.

Disconnect the igniter harness and remove the single screw attaching the igniter to the burner assembly. Slide the igniter back and remove it.

Install and secure the new igniter then make sure to reconnect the harness. Reassemble the front panel, console, and the top cover by reversing the given removal steps above.

Not getting hot. vent line is free of lint. Maytag Atlantis/gas

Chances are the hot surface glow igniter is not working. Most likely it is burned out. Set the controls to dry in high heat and note if the glowing coil does in fact glow. If not, it needs to be replaced. Open the burner access door and then turn the dryer on. Watch inside the burner compartment for the glow coil to light up and glow. If all the controls are set correctly on the front control panel and the dryer is running, but the glow coil fails to glow, you've located the defective part. The glow coil will need to be replaced.
To remove the coil, turn off the gas first. Unplug the dryer from the electrical wall plug. Then remove the entire gas valve as an assembly. The nut on the gas valve to remove it from the gas supply pipe turns counter clockwise. There will be small sheet metal screws used to secure the plate to which the burner assembly parts are attached. The plate holds the entire assembly and is attached to the bottom of the dryer's cabinet.
Next, remove the glow coil from the burner assembly. Take the entire assembled part to the local appliance retail parts store for a replacement coil. Glow igniters are fragile and they break easily. Handle and install the new igniter carefully. Glow igniters are a non-returnable and non-refundable electric component.
Be advised that some new replacement igniters do not come with quick disconnect ends. In this case, it is OK to cut off the quick, disconnect from the old igniter and attach it to the new igniter. Simply clip off the wires several inches above, disconnect the old igniter, attach to the wires of the new igniter, and wire nut the two ends together. Repeat the process to attach the other set of wires and wire nut them together. There is no positive nor negative polarity to be concerned with.
Additional Suggestions: Read the manufacturer's online Web site for product information, problem possibilities, causes and solving methods, part locations, disassembly, reassembly methods, repair procedures, instructions, pictorials and schematics, which may be available online.

How to replace kenmore elite washer model 110 16962503 lid switch

Hi,

Let me offer you a generic solution for most of the Kenmore washers :-

There are 2 screws that secure the console to the cabinet top. The are located in the front or rear corners, and on a Kenmore, may be hidden behind the end caps. Remove the screws, and tilt the cabinet backwards. Remove the 2 gold clips, and disconnect the wiring harness. Tilt the cabinet forward, and off of the base. The lid switch can now be accessed from inside the cabinet (I sit inside).

Hope i helped you.

Thanks.

No Spin No Drain

Lid switch is most likely the problem, if lid switch is visible under lid on right side then this is older design and common problem switch.
if you have console frame covers on front sides, snap off from top, a screw is at bottom front corners of console, remove and pull console forward and fold back. If lid swich is hidden then you will see it at left on top of cabinet with console folded back. a 5/16 screw holds a green ground wire to cab. remove and switch will unclip with lid up. If lid switch was visible under lid then you need to remove 2 brass clips holding cabinet on top of base to back, pry with screwdriver to unclip. undo harness connection on cabinet top, this is your lid switch connection. sw body is held by 2 phillips screws, harness tube held by clips on underside of cabinet top. ground wire with 5/16 screw present at sw body. New versions of this switch have metel shield attached.
