Hello there:
Gas oven won't work, Ignitor is glowing Everything in the circuit must have continuity for the oven to fire up. What if the ignitor glows but the oven will still not come on? If the ignitor is glowing that would mean you have a circuit. Solution: Replace the ignitor, even if it comes on. Why? Because 99% of the time the ignitor is weak. When it is working fine it should be so bright you cannot look at it for long. If it is a mellow orange color it is bad, replace it. The only way the gas oven valve would be bad is if it is open and has no continuity. That goes for the control as well. Check out this simple diagram of how a basic gas range operates. gas oven doesnt work - glowbar.jpg oven ignitor An ignitor must draw at least 3.5 amps or that safety valve will not open up and release the gas: . Hello there here is some more information for you

    A burner doesn't work

The most common problem for gas surface burners is
that they get gas but don't light. This is generally caused by dirt or
grease splatters on the burner itself. Residential-grade range/stove
burners are round and have small holes around their perimeter to allow
gas to flow out and create a round flame. The gas coming from these
holes is often ignited by a small vertical row of holes on the side of
the burner. If these vertical holes are clogged or obstructed, the gas
    can't ignite.

The solution is to clean the burners thoroughly.
Use a toothpick to clear the small vertical holes, then allow the burner
to dry completely and try lighting it again. If it doesn't light
immediately, either repeat the procedure or call a qualified appliance
    repair technician.

    It won't bake or broil

If neither the oven nor the broiler heats, but the
range burners still work, the clock may be set for a timed or
self-cleaning cycle. Check to be sure the clock buttons and knobs are
set properly. If your clock has a knob that says "push for man(ual),"
push the knob in and try heating the oven and broiler again. If they
still don't work properly, you probably have a defect in the thermostat,
    selector switch, or common wiring.

Note… If the oven doesn't have a separate
bake/broil/etc. selector switch, the problem is often with the
thermostat. It's not easy to check the selector switch or thermostat for
proper operation. If you suspect a problem with either of these, call a
    qualified appliance repair technician.

Oven takes too long to start or not at all

is this electric or gas? if it is gas and a newer model it has an ignitor that heats up that will then ignite the gas burner, the ignitor is bad or you may need to inspect and clean the gas ports on the burner as they can get cloged up over time, try the inspection and cleaning first. If it doesnt appear to be cloged then turn on the oven and watch the ignitor, if it doesnt heat up to be white hot then it is bad or going bad and should be replaced. if it is electric check to see if the heating element is working by turning the oven on and watch for it to glow red hot, if it doesnt then it will need to be replaced.

Won't get hot, smells like gas

Most of these new fangled gas stove feature a silicone carbide ignitor to light the oven. Older stoves used a standing pilot light. As silicone carbide ignitor age a little they tend to get weak and fail to open the gas safety vave sufficiently enough for ignition. Take a look

Gas stove When I turn on the oven, I smell gas,

This is more than likely the igniter to be sure you will need to do an amp draw on the igniter. To do this watch the video on troubleshooting a gas oven at www.appliancehelponline.com/servicemanual.html

Oven ingniter lights , smell gas but oven doesnt turn on

Hello- Ignitors may 'light' yet not reach proper resistance and temperature, causing improper gas flow past valve. If resistance is below 4 ohms, ignitor is bad. Part is 40-75$ at local app. parts store. Fairly easy to replace. Hope this helps. -Thanks- ED

My Amana gas oven won't heat up gas smell strong

Sounds like a sticking gas valve or a defective hot surface igniter. Open the broiler drawer or remove the bottom cover in the oven compartment. The oven usually has a hot surface igniter or a spark igniter. Turn on the oven and watch for the hot surface igniter to start glowing. It should glow very bright. Once it is glowing the burner gas should come on. If you hear the gas come on it should light right away. If there is any delay shut off the oven and stay back. Let the gas clear out then inspect the area near the igniter and make sure the burner is not plugged(the little holes may have debris in them). If you turn on the oven and the igniter comes, glows brightly,no gas is heard but you can smell gas it is either a blocked burner orfice/assembly or sticking gas control valve. Try giving the burner and gas control valve a tap and see if it comes on. If you tap the control valve and it starts working then shut of the oven and try it several times. If it starts to come on and off now you may have cleared whatever debris was causing the problem. If it does it again then it could be the control valve or a weak hot surface igniter. The igniter can be tested with a ohm meter. Most of the time when I get this complaint it is the oven control valve that is sticking. Be very careful when doing these procedures....gas can build up in the oven compartment very quicky and flash if ignited. Always have the gas shut off valve at the back of the range within reach and the electrical outlet in case you need to unplug it.

Oven doesn't heat up

Hi, Even though your igniter is glowing it's bad..A igniter should glow brillient yellow for it to be able to light the gas...basically whats happening in your case is although the igniter is drawing the correct amps to open the gas valve it is not getting hot enough quick enough to light it..change the igniter and you should be good to go. Good Luck!!! Mike

How to light Oven Pilot for Magic Chef stove 31000 PAW

There is a cover plate that has two screws holding it down. Inspect the pilot area and you will see a hot surface igniter sitting right next to it.. That is what lights pilot and then the pilot lights main burner. You need a new igniter. Also do not touch any part of the hot surface igniter as human oil will shorten the life of part.
