Unless you have a Windows installation CD, there's practically nothing you can do... Do you have one??

OK, you can use it INSTEAD of the Professional version (given that fact that you have Home edition's corresponding PRODUCT KEY)... though activation might be an issue as you can only activate Home editions once - But you'll never know until you try (and in worst case scenario - call Microsoft Activation Center and say you've replaced computer - and the old one died - and you wish to activate using your existing license code)!

Anyway, enter the BIOS (usually done by pressing DEL or F2, or F10 while the computer restarts) and make the computer boot from the CD drive first (usually under Integrated Peripherals, but may vary on different systems and BIOSes). In any case, look for the boot options and make the CD/DVD drive the first boot option; Save and quit (Usually done quickly by pressing F10).

With the Windows CD in the drive, the computer will boot from it and will start Windows installation. Follow the on-screen instructions/steps until it's done.

At the end, you'll have to download/install drivers for your computer. Enter the motherboard's manufacturer's website and download the drivers that fits your motherboard. Do the same for any other add-in cards and peripherals you have in your system.

    GOOD LUCK,
    Pelu.

Hi,
Maybe its a Bad Update. try to Boot to Safemode first and Uninstall the Installed Service Pack 3
To get into the Windows XP Safe mode, as the computer is booting tap "F8 Key" Continuously which should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" as shown below. Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.
Then, uninstall Service Pack 3 Start>Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs then look for Service Pack 3 and Uninstall.
If it did not work try Using System restore.
Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore.
Hope This Helps

I have genuine windows cd & key. My hard drive crashed and the guy who repaired it, loaded windows with a copy. How do I fix this?

Reformat your Hard-Disk using your genuine CD and install Windows again still using your own genuine CD.
Just follow these simple steps:
1. Inset your CD in the CD drive
2. Restart your computer
3. As the PC is yet to load windows, follow the instructions on your screen.
4. Load Bios by just pressing either F2 or delete (depending on *********** Board)
5. In Bios, look for Boot Priority and select "Boot from CD as your first priority".
6. Save changes and restart the computer.
7. While booting, follow the instructions on the screen and be first till the end.
Good Luck!
