Question about Samsung SyncMaster 930B 19" LCD Flat Panel Monitor

2 Answers

My Samsung SyncMaster 930b monitor will randomly black out and display the white and blue "Analog" then "Digital" 2 inch box on the upper left corner of the black screen a few times then go completely black. I've had my monitor for a number of years now. I'm assuming it's just its time to go. This typically seems to happen when I've had my computer on for long periods of time and usually resolves itself after I shut down the computer for an hour or so. Any ideas? If it's on its way out, is there any way I could try to fix it?

I do believe dhecom answered my question here. If this isn't the solution to my particular problem, I'd still like to know. Thanks.

It is probably NOT the picture board, it is VERY simple to decide what is wrong... There are about 4 or five screws on the back that will allow you to pry the back cover off. When you get that off look at the LARGER of the two printed circuit boards. THat is the POWER supply board. There are usually thee screws and a couple of little wire clips holding it on. Pop the clips off (NOTE! I use a sharpie marker to give each one a number so I can match them up later. Take the board off and look for three capacitors in a row.. Look like little silver beer cans standing on their ends. They should have some marking similar to: 820uF 25v 105c on them. Look at the top of the little cans (They have a little X on them). Do the cans look like they are flat on the top or are they about to explode?? ;)
If they are curved out like a beer can that wants to pop, they are bad. I would now go to newark.com and look up an 820mf 25v 105c capacitor and order 3 or 4 of them.. They cost < $1 each...
I found them HERE:
http://www.newark.com/panasonic/eeufc1e821/capacitor-820uf-25v-capacitor-820uf/dp/25M9172

Get them in, and take the bard to ANY electronics repair store (local PC repair shops probably have someone that can replace them. Once replaced, simply put the board back in, hook up the connectors, close the case and try it out.. Probably will work for another 5 years now.

Monitor will flash the display for a second then go black again.

Most common failure in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed SAMSUNG monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

After starting the computer the screen is black and only displays digital analog on screen and the blue light is flashing. It then displays a box say "check signal digital analog." please help me. Thanx.

This blue light flashing means there is power to monitor bu NO video signal. No Analog or digital Video . analog is the regular plug for PC to Monitor, the other is HDMI digital or other digital. Check signal digital/analog means again: No video signal from PC detected.

Samsung syncmaster 931a... connected to computer

Hi, its unlikely to be the cable. Most likely cause of this is a faulty inverter board. If you are lucky it will only be 1 or 2 blown capacitors which are easily identifiable and replaceable once you have got inside it. it could however, be almost any of the components on the inverter board or even a failed backlight but this will require further testing and a knowledge of LCD monitor workings.

Sounds like your resolution is not set correctly.

Try going to Start-->Control Panel-->Display and choose the Settings Tab

Under there change the resolution slider bar to 1280x1024
