Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console

PS3 conection cables

I have been using my PS3 w/ HDMI cable and works great. I need to move it to a different room and the TV does not have an HDMI connection so I tried the other cable (just thr standard yellow red white RCA's), just like the one for the PS2 and I get nothing? MUst the TV have an HDMI or Compnonet connections to operate?

Interesting, I have EXACTLY the same problem. I moved the PS3 to a TV with no HDMI and got NO SIGNAL out of the video/audio cable.
Took it back to my HD tv and used the same video/audio cable and NOTHING. Then plugged the HDMI cable in and viola! Everything worked.
Is there a setup that we are missing to get the Video/audio cable to work?

I am in the same situation as these other users above. Whoever this was responding to the problem I feel wasn't very knowledgeable in this matter at all being that the "answer" that was posted was most definately not helpful to say the least. I believe someone who is experienced and genuinely informative about this subject should at least view this question not someone with a useless, quick fix response. I would rate this response but there isn't an option for extremely dissatisfied.

Same issue, only HDMI works no matter what TV I put it on RCA, Video/Audio and RCA, Hi Def does not work only HDMI, I have gone to the settings of the PS3 and switched it using HDMI put it on the other TV and it does not work. It is like Once the HDMI output gets a signal it will always look for that and not switch back. Maybe a full reboot with it hooked up to the RCA Blind? anybody know how?

Suggest using HDMI or Component Video if you can. They provide the best picture quality. Should be able to use RCAs if need to.

Try switching the TV Mode. TV may have multiple modes if you have multiple connections.

No PS3 signal on TV using HMDI or Component Parts

It could be that either HDMI port could be bad or you might want to try a different hdmi cable. The cable could be bad.

Cant get output ps3 on hdmi cable

  • Make sure the system is off.
  • Hold down the Power Button for 5-6 seconds - until you hear the second beep.
This resets the video settings to defaults (standard video output).
Power up the PS3 again and it should auto-detect the hdmi at this point.

If that does not work use the original audio/video cable that came with the system, power it on, then adjust the video settings and try the hdmi cable again.

Why will my ps3 not workwhen conected via multi-av cable to the RCA jacks?it does work conected to a hd tv via hdmi

When you use an HDMI cable with your PS3, the system is outputting the signal in a digital format. You need to tell it to switch back to displaying in an analog format to use the RCA jacks, otherwise it won't work. To do this, turn off your PS3. Then, once it's off, press and hold down the power button on the system. After a few seconds, it will beep and reset the output signal back to analog. Just make sure only your RCA cables are plugged in when you do this. Hope this helps!

make sure ur not using both the av cable and the hdmi on some models it causes conflict although they are on different inputs. also did you try using a blu ray player or another ps3 on that hdmi port using the same cables or different cables? if another equipment work/don't work u can at least start to narrow down your problem..

I have the same problem with my Samsung LE46A656 A1F Full HD

    Hi,

If it was doing it on your old console then its the TV not the PS3.

Causes: HDMI cable (Replace cable), HDMI socket on TV (Get it repaired), If it happens on all HDMI inputs then the video board maybe faulty, Interference - location of PS3 to other equipment.

The first thing to do is move everything else away from your TV except for the PS3, now factory reset the Samsung TV and make sure your firmware is up to date my records show that an update came out in May for your TV, also factory reset the PS3 and setup the HDMI video settings using the wizrad in the PS3, now connect the PS3 through all HDMI inputs to see if its one input or all, if all inputs are the same then the TV maybe faulty.

Let me know how you get on.

    Thanks

All of a sudden, no sound on PS3, great pic though. Using HDMI cable...have checked all connections, reset PS3, etc. Still no sound! Guy from Sony said my HDMI cable(Monster) could be bad?! No sound, but...

I agree with the guy from Sony, the reason for this is the HDMI cable should support the transfer of audio and video over the same cable, if your only getting video over it, the cable could be defective, or its possible that you have another cable in the spot where speakers should go that is over riding the HDMI.

What exactly is the HDMI cable plugged into? Is it direct from TV to PS3?
If you have a stereo set lying around that supports HDMI - try having it run through that.
Is the TV muted? check if you can get sound while watching normal TV channels.
Worst comes to worst, use RCA Plugs remembering that the composite video is (yellow) and stereo audio is (white and red). You don't need to connect the composite video, but connect the stereo audio.

If this did not solve the problem, please leave a comment and I'll get back to you once I can =)

Hdmi connection doesnt work on ps3

By you saying that you have a new cable & tv, I assume you had the console conected tru composite before (red, white & yellow rca cable). This is what you need to do: Connect the PS3 to the tv with HDMI cable only, do not use the composite cable at the same time, reset your PS3 by pressing and holding the power button, when the power is off, for about 7 to 10 secconds, it would cicle from power off, on, then off again, it would also give you 2 sets of beeps, after the power is off, turn your tv on, make sure you select HDMI input on it, then turn your PS3 on, the console would set itself to the best resolution available on your tv. Give it a try!
