Dryer won't start.. has power sounds like something binding. long buzzing sound when starter depressed. try once or twice and then nothing for a while. come back try again ..long buzzing sound again

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.

You did not include a make and model number for your dryer so... this is a GENERIC response. With a make and model number we can better help you.

The long buzzing your hearing is the motor winding trying to start the motor. After 30 - 45 seconds if the motor does not start the thermal overload will cycle and prevent further attempts for around 5 - 6 minutes until the motor winding cools down.

Causes of a dryer motor not starting:
1. Binding.
a. Broken dryer fan blade lodged inside the blower housing
b. Motor start switch failure
c. Motor bearing failure

2. Dryer drum bearing / roller problems
a. The drum can be bound up and dragging on internal components of the dryer
b. The Idler pulley bearing may have failed and it is now a brake.
c. Front or rear drum seals failed / pinched against rear or front of the chassis
d. Drum roller bearing failure and is now a brake.

Reach inside the drum and see if you can turn the drum. If you can not turn it with a little effort, you need to find out where the binding is inside your dryer.

This is the best I can do for the moment without a model number. With a Make and Model number I can provide parts listings and item numbers of where to check.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Hitachi 46w500 went off tonight during storms, low voltage, wont turn back on

There might be a failure on the power supply or horizontal section of the TV even if you see some light inside the TV. Some of the voltages could be missing and that is why the TV fails to power up.
If you know how to use a multimeter, you could check all the fuses from your power supply.
Unplug your TV from the main AC line if you intend to do it yourself.
You will know how much you can do or it might safer to contact a tech.
Let me know if you need further assistance

I have a bosch oven and the power in my house went out during a storm and when it came back my oven started beeping and has not stopped since... what do i do???

Hello- You may have done this already, to save your sanity, but I would turn off the breaker for a few minutes. It is most likely beeping to tell you there was a power failure (as if you didn't notice). Once it is back on you will need to reset the clock, it may not stop beeping until you do this or press cancel. If this does not remedy the beeping there may have been a power surge that caused damage to the control board in which case you should call a Tech out to have a look. Good luck, best regards.

The heat is not a factor.Make sure you do not have a tripped breaker. Otherwis if you had a power surge to the dryer, ther could be electrical damage.

Pressed button while dryer on; lights flashed bells went off. Unplugged it the it said power failure when I plugged it back in and lights still flashed. Can't clear it.

Not sure what model of dryer you have since you did not include that infoprmation but there is a posibility that part of the transformer coils have failed. The transformer provides 24 V and 10V and 3V for circuit operation. It sounds as if the ONE winding has opened in the transformer.
I can go into more detail with a good model number. Without it... I am just providing my best guess.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Dryer won't stay on

The motor centrifugal switch is not switching from the start winding to the run winding. The switch should stay in the run winding when the motor picks up speed unless power to the motor is interrupted or cut off. The switch is replaceable on most dryer models but sometimes it is an integral or built-in part of the dryer motor and failure of the switch requires the replacement of the motor. Indicate the exact model number of the dryer for more accurate troubleshooting and repair advice.

it might be that it short circuited. try to remove the battery, unplug the ac adapter2_bing.gif and press and hold the power button for about 15-20 sec to drain power. expect no response since we're just draining the power. then put back in the battery and ac, and try to turn pc on. if still no go, possible motherboard replacement.

Maytag Neptune MDE7500AYW - Won't start - Message says "A power failure..

I had the same problem. It turned out a power transformer in the neighborhood had gone bad. I found it by checking power at the receptacles in the house and we weren't getting proper voltage throughout the house. We had enough power in the house to power lights, the TV, coffee maker etc. but not enough for the dryer. I called the power company and they came out to do a check. At first they said there was a wiring problem with the house until all the neighbors started coming over after seeing their vehicle and saying they were having problems. So maybe you aren't getting proper power to the unit.

Good luck. Hope this fixes your problem.

When a load is added to dryer the dryer has difficulty starting to spin, this problem has got worse, now it will only start if there is only a couple of items in the drum (2kg) any more and the motor just...

The typical motor has to elements to it. There is a start winding and a run winding. The start winding supplies the initial kick that your machine is missing and the run winding supplies the running power. In some cases the relay on the motor itself can be adjusted to allow the start winding to perform its function. In most cases the entire motor will need to be replaced.

In some rare instances there have been misshapen blower wheels which cause excessive friction on the blower housing which in turn mimics a bad start winding.

To make a long story short the changing of a motor on the Bosch dryer (either the large dryer or the small one) is fairly involved and you should have a professional check it out.
