Not baking correctly...

When baking a cake last week, I had one spot on the cake that almost burned...then this week when baking a layer cake, the outer edge over baked but the center of the cake didn't bake completely. Any suggestions on what the problem might be.

Why does the bottom of my cakes burn before the center is done?

Because your oven gets too hot on the bottom part. Use a rack to position your cake in the centre of the oven or - if the bottom of the cake still burns - insert a baking tray between the bottom of the oven and the rack on which you bake the cake on.

It depends on the size of the cake. I make a syrup sponge cake that contains 4oz flour, 4oz Sugar, 4oz Butter and 2 eggs, with a layer of syrup in the bottom of the microwave bowl. It usually takes 4-5 mins on maximum in my 800W microwave.
