Washing errored and now I cannot open it...HELP!

Washed a small but long rug (4 to 5' long 2' wide) on kid care cycle and 2/3 of the way in it error out. I tried to start the cycle over again becasue the door is locked and I cannot open it. But it error out again so I tried to but it on the delicate cycle and 10 mintues later it error and then I tried the hand wash cycle and again error. Then I tried to put it on the drain option and the motor just makes a low and subtle but consistent nosie like it is maybe stuck. If I could get into the machine I could see if it is part of the rug that is stuck but I cannot open it. Is there a way to open it even if there is water in it??? HELP!

Since I am the husband of this poster, and fixed the washer last night I thought I would post the details to help anyone else out with similar problems.

So, the issue was a clogged up drain line, and it needed to be cleaned. here is how to do it.

remove the circular access panel at the front lower right of the washer. To do it, pry up the side of the circle near the small hole, and at the same time twist the thing clocwise.

Next you see a big hand turnable plug. And also a white plastic zip tie hanging. If you pull the white zip tie downward, the door will release allowing you to get the stuff out, in our case a big rug. Also start unscrewing the plug slowly. Water will leak out, lots of it until the washer drains. In my case we have a floor drain underneath the washer, so I let it all go down there. You may need to get a small pan or something and dump it a few times.

Once the plug is removed, the clog was obvious. there is an impeller and screen leading out to the drain, it was completely clogged with pieces of the rug. I pulled it all out, put the plug screw back in and ran a cycle with no clothes in. It all went smoothly after that! good luck.

My front panel had three star head screws in the bottom . The cover panel slides down with a small force and is held together by tabs in slots after the screws are removed.. On The right side is the recessed cylinder hole.. The Plug takes considerable amounts of force to rotate. After The flood.of water and a little shop vac I found coins a fishing hook hair pins and a leggo. Everyone in my family is at fault. I did all this from my phone so I know the errors are everywhere. I Just wanted to thanks you for your posts

I would try to run an empty washer through about 4 or 5 rinse cycles and see it the machine will clean itself.
I would also carefully wipe it out after each complete cycle.
God bless your efforts.

F21 error message

This HC error code will appear at the end of the wash cycle to indicate that the hot and cold water inlet hoses are switched.
If the hoses are not switched it could indicate a problem with the Electronic Control Board.
You can try to rest the washer by unplugging or flipping the breaker to the washer for 2-5 min.
Restore power to the washer and try running a short cycle.
This will help clear any irregularities that the control board may have encountered.

Washed a rug. Error code F21 came up when washer

"F21" is a Long Drain error code. This indicates that you have an obstruction in the drainage system. In most cases, this means you probably have a clog in the drain pump. The following link explains:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r1484065-f21_error_code_whirlpool_duet_kenmore

Rugs are notorious for losing fiber and holding loads of dirt. You may have something getting caught in the pump impeller and slowing it down. Included is a follow-on link that explains how to check the drain pump to clean. You may also have to remove the inlet hose that runs from the bottom of the wash tub to the inlet side of the drain pump. Debris can commonly clog in this area as well causing the drain cycle to fail.

If you have any questions about this repair, or need additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

NOTE: If these preliminary measures do not correct your problem, you may have to replace the drain pump. It does not take much to damage the pump impeller or motor. Since the error code is generated if the drain cycle exceeds 8 minutes, if the pump is damaged and can't pump at the required volume, the error code will continue to appear until the pump is replaced.

NOTE: The "SUDS" error can also commonly occur with the F21 error code as this is usually generated when air is sensed in the drainage system.

Whirlpool Duet won't stop draining

The F21 error on this line of washers is the machines way of saying the water took to long to drain from the tub. This could be a problem with one of the washer parts including the drain pump itself, how the drain hose enters the stand pipe, or maybe even something is stuck somewhere in the drain system and is preventing the water from flowing properly. Not quite an emergency, but it is an indication of a problem and a problem that can lead to something bigger if not looked into.

In talking with the customer, I found out the last load before all this started to indicate a problem was a rug from the house. Rugs can be troublesome to was as many of them used in laundry and bath rooms have rubber backings that can come loose when washed. When the backing comes loose, it can find it's way into the drain system and cause a problem, or the rug fibers can come loose and do the same thing. Figuring this was the problem, I explained to the customer how to get access to the drain pump by removing the three screws that hold the lower access panel in place. Here you will find the pump and the all important sump clean out, or as we like to call it, the coin catcher. Inside she found many fibers from the rub along with a few other things that found there way out of her kids pants pockets.

With the sump cleaned out, I asked her to try another load then to give me a call and let me know how everything worked out. A phone call a couple hours later told me the problem had been solved, and now this customer knows a bit more about her washer.

Many of the front load washers on the market have a user accessible clean out for just such an occurrence. Just be aware that if you open it up, any water that is still inside the tub will quickly be in your lap, so plan accordingly.
