Question about IBM Wheelwriter 30 Typewriter

1 Answer

IBM Wheelwriter 6 ribbon not advancing

I have an IBM Wheelwriter 6 that the ribbon does not advance automatically. Sometimes it does for several letters, but then stops. I can manually advance it by turning the geer with my finger as I type. I think it needs a new motor?
Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

The ribbon won't advance

It sure sounds like something is interfering with the correction tape. Look for debris in that area.

Ribbon advance gear is stuck

On the R. hand side of the ribbon deck is the motor for ribbon feed, put som WD40 on the upper and lower bearings they do gum up and freeze the motor.

IBM Wheelwriter 6 - Ribbon doesn't lift high enough for the key that's pressed to print on paper. Ribbon advances OK.

If theribbon dosen't lift at all see if the black gear on the R. side of the printer will move, if not w3iggle it and it should free up they get tooth for tooth with the motor gear. If it only lifts partually thereis an adjustment on the roll that works with the black gear. BE SURE TO CHECK THGAT BTHE PLATEN IS FULLY SEATED IN THE VSIDE FRAMES THEY DO GET LOOSE!

Found a new ribbon, put new batteries in the small compartment under type wheel housing. The ribbon won't advance. What am I missing?

The ribbon feed motors Gum up and don't move. Sprat some WD40 on the motor bearings. The motor is located just below the ribbon deck on the right.

Ribbon won't advance

First try a little WD40 on the ribbon motor bearings top and bottom, ckeck the plug that is plugged into it. The motor is under the R. corner of the ribbon deck towards the front of T/W.

On a Wheelwriter 6, the ribbon does not advance after typing each character.

First thing try a fresh ribbon they get old and tend to stick to themselves. Don't try another ribbon from the same batch tou are using.

The ribbon won't advance on my IBM Selectric III typewriter. It's a new ribbon and it's on the outside of the shock wire and the lever is closed.

When the lever closes does the driver move to the right and aganist the ribbon, they get gummed up and stay opened. If this is a generig ribbon the top of the ribbon cassette will sometimes get in the way. If the ribbon isn't lifting you may be in stencil .

Wheelwriter 6

The plastic printer solenoid cap is probably broken, it is available but a little tricky to install.
