The IPL (exploded parts list) for your saw is the only detail for fuel line routing and it is sketchy at best. Fuel components and part numbers are listed but may be on different illustrations. They are also beneficial with disassembly/reassembly (a "2450 Gas Saw Type 7" example IPL follows. may not be your saw):

The dash number of your serial number is the type.

The Poulan print is deceptive, my schematic (below) is correct.

SOURCE: I HAVE TO REPLACE FUEL LINES ON A POULAN MODEL

Hi,

Sorry to hear of your predicament. It's upsetting but not that hard to fix.

You'll have to drain the gas out of the tank first and toss it if it isn't fresh. Remove the filler cap. Take the cover off the saw and possibly the air filter if it's in the way.
Turn the saw upside down and shake the fuel filter to the opening of the gas tank (it's inside the tank) and grab it with a needle nose pliers and pull it out. If the line was that bad, you'll want to replace the fuel filter also.
You'll need to get new fuel line, which is clear tubing. You'll need about 6-8 inches of tubing.
Attach the new line to the fuel filter and feed the line into the gas tank and through the hole in the bottom. Pull it all the through to the interior of the saw. Feed the line around to the small metal tube on the carburetor. Before you connect to the carb, cut the excess line off.
If your saw has a priming bulb, connect the line to the fuel entrance on the bulb.

I hope this helps. If it does, I'd appreciate a 4 thumbs up vote. Thanks,

Handie Andie

SOURCE: I replaced fuel and carb

It is quite difficult to explain exactly how it fits, the cable always looks too long and has to curl around on itself back to the trigger, the picture shows quite well how it goes, the end of the cable with a dog leg in it goes to the carb, as far as i remember it goes to the upper hole in the carb spindle, just push it into the hole and turn through 90%, the other end fits into the throttle trigger.adw1_9.jpg

Model no.358791072 fuel lines were rotted.I need a diagram of the proper order

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.
The fuel line WITHOUT a strainer will go from the tank to the OUTSIDE primber bulb connection then from the primer bulb center connection to the carb. Item 7 this link comes with the diagrams:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Craftsman-Parts/Grass-trimmer-weed-wacker-Parts/Model-358791072/0247/1503820/P0808034/00002?blt=06&prst=0&shdMod=358791072

There are several you tube videos here on replacing fuel lines:
(do not delete) utube.png
Something to note... inside the tank there is a fuel filter/strainer. Make sure to replace that fuel line also. The connection from the strainer will connect straight to the carb fuel mainfold connection. The center connection of the primer bulb will go straight to the carb fuel manifold.

Poulan chainsaw 2450 picture of gasline hoses conected

OK here goes, no pic but I will describe the best I can. This model should be equipped with a primer. The first thing you need to do is identify which connector is suction (in) and which one is return (out). Once you have done this it's simple. The return (out) has a line that goes right back to the tank. The suction (in) line hooks to the carburetor. The main fuel line from the tank with a filter on one end has the other end that connects to the carburetor. Now, with two fittings on the carburetor, find the one closest to the fuel pump cover (usually held on by one screw). This is the inlet fitting to the carburetor. This is where the fuel line connects that goes inside the tank with the filter on it. The lower or opposite fitting is where the suction line from the primer connects. This should do it. The return (out) line is usually a larger OD line than the suction & fuel line, which are the same size OD lines.

  • The hose in the tank with the filter on the free end connects directly to the carburetor input connection.
  • If the saw is equipped with a primer bulb, an output line from the carburetor connects to the suction side of the primer (once the bulb is collapsed it draws fuel from the tank through the carburetor to refill as it inflates).
  • The pressure side of the primer returns displaced fuel to the tank as it is depressed.
Take lots of notes and a few digital photographs to help with reassembly.
