Question about Viking DFUD042 Built-in Dishwasher

Detergent Packets not dissolving

I use the Cascade dishwasher tablets (gel) which have been working just fine for the past year. In fact I have 2 dishwashers and the other has no issues. The packet is not dissolving completely and the dishes and interior of the washer all have a white film on them.

Your heater may not be working properly. It is used to heat the water during the main wash as well as dry the dishes at the end. But don't under-estimate the importance of using the right detergent. Some discount detergents (especially liguids or gels) don't work very good. Stick with Cascade or Finish powders or those All-In-One tablets by Finish corporation (the ones with the little red "power ball"), or the new tablets put out by Cascade called "Platinum". In our repair business and experience, we find those work best.

We use the Cascade tablets but they don't dissolve

Either:

1. the water does not get into the dishwasher open the dishwasher 3-4 times during cycle, you should see some water at least once, if not - check water valve, water level float and water pressure.
2. the pump is clogged - there is water, the motor will run but no water is circulated. Check pump filters, check chopper and impeller.
3. motor in main pump is not working - could be caused by something stuck on the impeller or chopper or could be a problem with the motor itself or control board. Check if line voltage is coming to the motor during wash/rinse cycle.

Good luck,

The detergent packet doesn't dissolve. The dishwasher seems to go through the cycles ... the dishes are wet. However I find the detergent packet in the bottom of the dishwasher.

Hello- Water flow, temperature, and pressure inside determine whether this little packet will dissolve.  Sump blockages or pump /motor weakness both effect amount water spraying inside. Some of these packets don't dissolve in time to enter wash water. Start by using powder or gel again. If it still leaves soap residue, other pump/motor issues exist. Let me know if this info helps- have more if needed. Thanks- ED

Dishwasher wont dissolve soap and not washing properly

The make and model number can probably be found around the door edge (usually right side) If you can find it, post the make and mode # here.
Recommend you get a box of brand name detergent powder (like Electrosol or Cascade) and begin only using that. (Neve use gel or tablets) Cheap Cheap, generic detergent does not dissolve properly, leaves residue of its own and cleans poorly.
If problems continue, check the heating element as it is very possible that it has failed and the dishwasher needs to get to the proper temperature to activate the detergent. Also check to see if the holes in the spray arms are not blocked with debris.
If the heating element is working, then the wash pump motor has begun to fail and you need to decide to replace it or replace the entire dishwasher.

Dishwasher detergent won't dissolve

Recommend you stop using the gel and switch to a brand name powder - like Electrosol or Cascade. Never use gel, gel packs or tablets in any dishwasher. Avoid untra-cheap, generic powders.
If problems continue, a service call, with them checking that the heating element is working is the follow up step.
Good Luck!

Detergent caked in holder after running a cycle, using Cascade

Try this before you jettison your current dishwasher. Yes, it is possible that the wash motor is getting weak, beginning to fail but:
Buy and use a box of brand name box of detergent powder Electrosol or Cascade. Stop using the generic powder and never use a gel or tablet in a dishwasher.
You will be amazed how how much better the detergent dissolves and the DW cleans.
Good Luck!

Re:dishwasher

Ginga, first of all it's still under warranty so I would call for service. Here's a few things to consider; first, I would switch back to the powdered detergent like Cascade. You want to make sure that the water entering the dishwasher is at least 120 to 150 degrees, anything less will cause the detergent not to dissolve. Check your loading and make sure nothing is blocking the spray arms from the soap dispenser. Make sure the spray arms do not have any cracks or splits. After the dishwasher fills, make sure that the water level is right at or just below the heating element, a short fill will cause this also. Catriver...post back.
