Depending on make & model, usually if you hear a "click" at control box at ceiling when switched to cool, that's a good indication of a faulty relay, capacitor , or maybe even compressor. Not something to play with if not experienced, especially capacitor. Have someone who knows electrical troubleshooting check voltages at compressor and you should be able to back-track from there and isolate problem. If no clicking at ceiling when asking for cool, check thermostat, then control box connections etc at ceiling. Need more info such as make and model number as well as thermostat type if more questions please.

My ac fan works but the compressor won,t kick on

The fan on the condenser or air handler? Check the capacitor on the condenser. If you don't have a meter that does uf you can take the amp draws of the comp multiplied by 2650, divided by the voltage between com and herm on the cap. If cap is good be sure compressor is not off on thermal overload, cool with water hose, careful to not soak electrical. If not hot and cap good , try hard start kit. If still no compressor ,ohm compressor, com to start plus com to run should equal start to run on ohms. Hope this helps.

Radiator fans won't come on while van is running

Start the car and turn on the AC to max. Do either of the fans run with the AC compressor engaged? Also, there is a temp sensor for the fan circuit but I don't know exactly where it is located on that vehicle.

If this is a 'new' unit I would contact Coleman and explain the problem you are having. I would think that they would have to honor the warranty on the unit. That is, if a AC company installed the unit. However, from your explanation of the problem it appears that you might of installed the unit yourself in which case - 'they' (Coleman) might decide to 'not' honor it. A gray area for sure. Still, I would try and see if they would help you.
In the case they won't - I would get ahold of a AC Tech and have him/her troubleshoot the unit before I started removing and adding electrical components.
From what you've said - I wouldn't think you have anything seriously wrong - you just need someone to figure out why it's not working as it should.
My best guess - is that it's a simple electrical problem that can be solved with one service call and for a minimum cost.
Worst case - might be a major component (i.e. compressor) that is bad (which is not likely) but in any event with the AC Tech's help - Coleman would probably honor the warranty on the compressor and you would only be out the labor for the AC Tech to install it. Note: some warranties will even cover the labor to put it in.
Bottom line - I would try to get Coleman to help me directly or with the help of a AC Tech, and in the event they won't - I would trust the AC tech to find the problem and repair it.

The engine is over heating when the air condtion ing is on- the fans are not working.

  • You have a relay box under the hood back by the firewall on the passenger side. What happens is that fan relay goes out and the fan won't come on. When your AC is running the compressor is running and this makes your engine run much hotter than without the AC running. The fan should be on when ever the AC is on by default.
  • So under the hood (diagram #2) is the relay panel. When you lift up the lid to the relay panel there is a diagram of all the relays and fusible links inside there. Find the relay for the fans and this should fix your problem.

How did you know when the cooling fans are not working

You may have one conventional belt-driven fan with a thermal clutch and the other electric or, both could be electric on your car.
The cooling fan that operates during non-AC operation (just a running engine) if electric, will be controlled by a thermal switch in the lower radiator tank and may not turn on at all unless the engine is warmed up. The belt-driven fan should be turning at some speed all the time if the engine is running and at much higher speed with a hot engine.
The fan that cools mostly when the AC is operating won't run under normal operation but may turn on in hot weather (or when the engine is under heavier loads) even without the AC operating.
Checking them would require having a warmed-up engine and the AC turned on. Both fans regardless of type should be turning then.

1995 chevy lumina sensor went out and fan wont turn

How did you determine that the sensor failed. Did the check engine light come on? When you say that the fan won't turn, do you mean that it won't turn on and run or that you can't physically turn it by hand. To determine this, disconnect the electrical connector to the fan and try to turn it by hand. It should turn easily. If it doesn't then it must be replaced. If it does then reconnect the electrical connector to the fan and try to operate it by disconnecting the temperature sensor lead and placing a jumper wire between the terminals of the harness. turn the AC control to AC/MAX and turn the ignition key to on. If the fan runs then the problem is the sensor. If it doesn't then check the fan control relay and any related fuses. WARNING : Use extreme caution when testing the fan circuit. Never attempt to turn the fan with the electrical connector in place. The fan can operate at any time even if the engine is off.
