Alps MD 5500\ file left in printer Que

Alps MD 5500
I purchased a new Alps 5500 printer to print water slid decals and have had problems with the file being left in the printer que after the file has printed. I have tried every thing I can think of to resolve the problem. If I uninstall the print drivers and reinstall them I can print for a while before a file gets left in the printer que. Ihave tried printing with a USB and parallel print cable.

The operating system is windows XP professional.

Parallel printer cable
If I use a parallel printer cable and install the print drivers before plugging in the printer and turning it on, a window opens up entitled “Print to file”. Inside the window the curses is flashing next to a line entitled “output file name”. I have tried giving the output file a name and clicking OK but the file never prints. I don't know what name the printer is looking for.

If I use a parallel printer cable and let windows find the new device and then install the printer drivers, I get a “Printer Error Message” that reads “ Change printer Port to MD_LPTx. I have tried changing the printer port with no success.

USB printer cable
When using a USB printer cable to print I am able to print a few files before the printer fails to remove the file from the printer Que. The only way I have found that I can remove the file is to remove the printer drivers and reinstall them again.

I tried going to the service .msc window without success. (start/run and typing I “service.msc” and then going to the print spooler. I then went to prosperities and recovery tab and changed all three drop-down boxes to “Restart the service”. After that I stopped and restarted the print spooler)

You should do:

- From the Start menu select "Printer and Faxes"
(Access that folder in different ways)
- Printer and Faxes window opens.
- You will se there a printer icon named "Microsoft XPS Document Writer" checked as your default printer.
It prints to file. When you try to print using that printer as default, it asks a file name to print the document which you wanted. When you write s document name it writes the document in that file and saves in the folder.

- If you installed your Alps printer driver correctly, you will se the name of your printer there.

- Right click on that "Alps MD 5500..." printer icon and select "set as default printer" option.

- Then try to print your document.

But if you have some documents waiting to print to a file in the memory first delete them to clear the print memory of PC.
To be sure, restart your computer. Then test to print.

Be sure that your Alps Printer should be selected as your default printer.

That's all.

Hope this helps.

Can our ALPS MD 1000 printer work with Windows 7? We used it when old computer had Windows XP on it, but that crashed and bought HP with Windows 7 now... we need Alps to make waterslides for custom rod...

There are NO Windows 7 drivers for the ALPS MD printer. I've read that you can run an XP virtual mode on Win7 that allows you to use the printer. If you are comfortable tweaking the OS, it's a workable option. I picked-up an old (and cheap) laptop on Craigslist and printed my decals from there.

You could try using spot colors for each layer of the decal. This gives you the highest resolution.

The print que does not empty after a print job has

Hi there
You can try see if this may do it.

Go to Start / Run and type in "services.msc" without quotation marks, then press Enter or click OK.

In the window that opens (Services) look for "Print Spooler" on the right

Right-click "Print Spooler" and select "Properties".

Click on the "Recovery" tab and change all 3 drop-down boxes to "Restart The Service".

Make sure the 2 text boxes underneath say "1" in them.

Click Ok until you are back at the Services window, close it and you're good to go.

Go back into the properties of the "Print Spooler" tab and be sure to click Start to restart the Print Spooler service and it will restart the service immediately.

The Print spooler depends on the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service. Is this service disabled? Go to services.msc look for RPC. Check state: Automatic

Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.

My alps md 5000 doesnt seem to be printing decals as clear as it

these printers are flaky. There is a reason why the mainstream never picked ALPS up. The image quality stinks and the printer break down constantly. Koolaid drinkers in search of the grail love them.

Lines in the printing

Join the Yahoo Group for Alps printers. There is a lot of information there. Have you cleaned the print head? Refer to the Users Guide for how to do it. Lines in the printer output can indicate a bad printer head.

Lines through my md 1300 alps printer

It sounds like the head has been damaged. Unfortunately, there is no fix for this, as Alps stopped production of these printers years ago, and now do not offer repairs for these printers.

If you still want a dye-sub capable Alps printer, the only model available is the MD-5500, which you can find here:

Do you repair Alps MD 5000 printer

Unfortunately, this website is not a repair shop, but I'll give you what help I can....

Printhead problems are not repairable in the US or Europe any longer. You best bet is to upgrade to an MD-5500, which you can find here:

Alps md 1300 only prints in black

First of all, Alps MD inks do not "Dry up". They are dry to start with!

It sounds like you may be running XP, with the Microsoft driver for this printer installed. You need to load the Alps driver, which you can get by joining the alps or alpsdecal group at You can find the driver in the files section of one of the groups.
