Question about Dell Inkjet 720 Printer

1 Answer

I installed a 'new' black cartridge. The "Install Print Cartridge" window is open and ask which cartridge I installed? I make my selection and the 'next' window will not highlight to allow me to go on. Nor can I cancel the window. I have closed down my computer, unplugged the printer and nothing seems to help.

The solution may have been helpful. I do not have another cartridge at this moment to switch to. I will let you know once I install a different cartridge.

There is a problem with the cartridge that you installed in the printer. The cartridges have a small chip on them for security purposes and the chip may be defective. What you need to do is to contact the people who sold you the cartridge and have them replace it for you. Once a proper functioning cartridge is installed then you will be able to continue on to the next screen in the installation process.

Why is my black ink not printing

Hi Colleen,

Try this > open a document (from the computer) and select print from the menu,
- In the print screen window select 'properties' Or 'Preferences' or 'Properties'

- In the next window click 'maintenance'

- In the next window there will be many options to clean, align, nozzle check etc... , there click 'Ink cartridge settings'.

- A small windows opens, there select black only. See the image

- try printing, if it fails to print, just return the cartridge to the shop and get a genuine branded one. (dont forget to change the 'ink cartridge settings to normal to 'both black and color')

Hope this help, if you are not able to fix it still, then better come to chat here , thanks! 10_22_2011_5_46_32_am.jpg

HP6988 printer skips lines and only prints bottom half of black lines. Installed new black cartridge, printed test page. Still no change.

Most deskjets include a maintenance section. Open this printer in PRINTERS on Control Panel (assuming Windows). right click on the printer and select properties. You will have to look for the maintenance section. There you should find an option to "clean heads". You may need to do this several times if never done before. After each cleaning, print a test pattern. Hope this helps.

How do I install the printer cartrige? I do not have the booklet...

  1. Turn on your printer.

  2. Open the front cover.

The ink cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position unless the printer is busy.

  1. Press the tabs on the cartridge lids, then lift the lids.

  1. Remove the old ink cartridges.

  1. Store the cartridges in an air-tight container or dispose of them properly.

  2. If you are installing new ink cartridges, remove the sticker and transparent tape from the back and bottom of each ink cartridge.

NOTE: You can use your printer with one cartridge (color or black) at a time. To extend the life of your color cartridge and improve printing speed, install both a color cartridge and a black cartridge at the same time.
  1. Insert the new ink cartridges. Make sure the color ink cartridge is secure in the left ink cartridge carrier and the black ink cartridge is secure in the right ink cartridge carrier.

  1. Snap each lid closed.

  1. Close the front cover. The front cover must be closed to start a print job.

  1. Open the Dell Printer Solution Center by clicking Start® Programs or All Programs® Dell Printers® Dell Photo Printer 720® Dell Printer Solution Center.

  2. Click the Maintenance tab.

  3. Click Install a new print cartridge.

  4. Click Next.

  5. Select the type of cartridge you installed.

NOTE: Specify whether the cartridge is a new cartridge or an old cartridge (one that has been used before). If an old cartridge is incorrectly identified as New Cartridge in the Dell Printer Solution Center, ink levels may be incorrect.
  1. Click Next.

THE INSTALL COLOR INK NOTICE KEEPS STAYING ON. EVEN AFTER I KEEP INSTALLING DIFFERENT CARTRIDGES

Go into printer maintenance and chose the Canon printer (assuming you have multiple printers). Once you chose the printer you can then perform maintenance and do cleaning and priming. Essentially when you click install new cartridge the system will essentially prime the printer so that when you print a document it will not have to prime itself. It should prime automatically once you close the lid and install the new cartridge.
