Question about Hayward SAND FILTER, PRO SERIES

1 Answer

Water leakes from every setting on a variflow valve

I had replaced the gasket with the wedge openings, the spring and washers. When I put it together it leaked out the waste hose on every setting. I wondered if I had put it together pointing at the wrong word for the action, so I checked every setting. Water either trickled or gushed out of the waste hose at EVERY setting.

If a new gasket didn't solve your problem then you will need to search for a crack in the plastic either in the gasket seating groove or the diffuser that rides atop the gasket. Whether it is fixable or not will depend on what is cracked. The diffuser can be replaced...the groove can not. A new top-mount valve is about $100.

Kenmore 417 97962705 Leaking below tub from transmission gasket

see this causes and fix it. God bless you

Try to identify roughly the area the leak is coming from. This will eleminate some of the following

Hose Connections
Check the rubber washers or replace if the hoses are leaking at the water inlet valve.

Door Seal
This is a common place for leaks. Carefully check by partially pulling seal inside out and check for punctures, pens, pencils... Additionaly if the door is not closing properly it may need a door adjustment. This can easily be done by loosening the hinge bolts on the front panel, adjusting and retighten. The seal is also known to get lightly snagged by zippers or rub by heavy items when close are being removed. This tends to cause the seal to get damaged at the six o'clock position. This is sometimes hardly noticeable but if it is leaking from the bottom of the door replace the door seal.

Water Inlet Valve
If the hose connections are good to the water inlet valve check that water is not leaking from the valve itself it is replace the water inlet valve.

Drain Pump
Check the drain pump housing and all hose connections. The drain pump is behind the lower panel, behind the back panel, and sometimes removal of the front panel. Hoses can be tightened. If hoses or pump housing is leaking replace the pump assembly.

Outer Drum
The outer drum is 2 halves bolted together some washers have a seal between others do not. If the washer is leaking between the seems disassembly of the washer will be necessary. The top panel, console, front panel, door seal, struts. Follow the video for the strut replacement and remove the top springs and the inner and outer drum will pull out the front.

The rubber gasket around the drum opening is leaking and rusting

You can replace it by lifting the lip of the rubber around the edge and finding the wire where the springs connect there you can stretch the springs apart, remove the wire and pull off the rubber. Just make sure first that is where the leak is, sometimes a leak in the soap dispenser water tube can seem like door gasket leak.

Tank won't stop filling up...overflow hose just keeps running. i lift up on blue piece and it stops, but starts again once i let go. i just got this toilet in the summer...hard to believe it has problems...

You need to replace tank valve.
See photo of the product:
http://salestores.com/fluidmas.html

Buy this product at hardware store.
Turn off water to toilet.
Flush toilet to empty water from tank.
Under the tank, the tank valve is held with two nuts.
Nut1 seals water line to the valve.
Nut2 seals valve to the tank.

Loosen nut1 and it drops down. You can use same nut for new valve, or use new one that comes with product.
Notice there is a beveled washer stuck in bottom of valve, or stuck inside nut1. Your new valve will have a new beveled washer.
Loosen nut2 and valve come loose and can be lifted out.
When you lift up valve, remaining water will run onto floor so have a pan and towel ready.
Notice on bottom of valve is a rubber washer. This washer seals the valve and tank together so water will not leak.

New valve comes with 2 washers > big one and small one. They are usually attached together, small one inside bigger one, and you have to tear them apart.

Clean opening of sand and dirt.
Supply pipe is sticking up.
Put nut1 and small beveled washer onto the supply pipe, with flat side of washer facing downward and rounded side facing up toward tank.

Put bigger washer on bottom of new valve. Flat part of washer goes to valve, beveled part of washer faces downward to tank.
Set valve in place and notice how washer covers the hole.
Put nut2 on bottom of valve and tighten. As you tighten the nut, valve will rotate inside tank. Make sure float and parts can move freely.
The valve doesn't have to be super tight to seal. Just tighten ia reasonable amount, and you can tighten more later if needed.

Now attach nut1 to bottom of new valve and this will seal supply line going into tank.
This nut has to be fairly tight.
Turn water on.
Valve has adjustments for selecting height of water inside tank.
Use paper towel on bottom of valve to check for leaks.
Leave catch pan under new valve for couple days to make sure there is no dripping.
If water is seeping, then tighten nut1 or nut2 a bit more.
Sometimes the shut off start leaking. Open shut off all the way to see if this solves problem.

We have a hayward sand filter and have replaced the entire mult-port valve gaskets etc. The pool runs on filter but after we vacuum backwash etc...when we put the handle back to filter water continues to...

There is more than one version of these valves. The model like sp072 has a 5 spoke spider gasket that has one opening larger than the rest. Be sure it is in position so that the large opening lines up with the large opening in the valve. If it's a SP0714 then the rubber is molded on the valve itself and would have to be replaced together. In either case, the seal is provided by the spring pressure forcing the valve faces together. That is why you should depress the handle, and only turn the valve while it's depressed, and the pump is off. After you turn to the selected location, then you release handle, and the valve surfaces should spring back together. Be sure the lever has spring tension on it in case you left it out while working on it) You can download complete manuals from www.haywardnet.com Good luck!

No suction from hayward variflow pro series sand filter

Try these tips. I am guessing that one of these is the reason that your pool filter is not working properly. If you try these suggestions and they don't work, let me know and I will trouble shoot with you again.
1. Check skimmer and pump strainer baskets for debris.
2. Check for restrictions in intake and discharge lines.
3. Check for air leak in intake line (indicated by bubbles returning to pool.
4. Backwash your filter.
5. Be sure Vari-Flo valve is set on “Filter” position.

Hyward Variflow valve lets water drain when in filter posi

If you pull the six screws holding the valve top on and open it up. You will see what is called a spider gasket in the bottom of the valve and this is comming loose. If you pull this out and dry the valve. You will have old silicone in the grooves at the bottom. Carefully clean all this out. Take the old one to the store to match it up. Then put a thin layer of silicone on the new one and put in place. Reassemble and let sit for a few hours and you should be good to go.
In the future be shure the pump is off and all the presure is out of the system before you turn the valve. The water inside will resh over the gasket and pull it out of place causing this. So be careful. good luck.

Kitchen taps drip and leak.I do not want to replace with new but would like to sort these problems.

dependent on the type of faucet, you need to replace (a) the washers, (b.) the spring and seals or (c.) the gasket. They all serve the same purpose. 1. turn off the water supply to the faucet. 2. double handle? (a)remove the center cap (b) then remove the screw holding the handle down (c)next unscrew the valve stem retaining nut (normally it is the one right above the faucet body). (d) pull the valve stem out, if there is a small rubber piece held down by screw remove the screw, replace the washer. if there is a rubber gasket wrapped around the stem, remove and replace it, if nothing is on the stem look into the faucet body you should see 1 or 2 small rubber pieces these are the seals the springs are right below the seals. Remove and replace springs and seals. 3. single handle? remove the handle retaining screw, normally covered by hot/cold indicator symbol, unscrew valve stem retaining nut, pull the valve stem and replace either the gasket or springs and seals.

Kenmore washer need to put rubber gasket retaining spring back on. Any tricks, seems impossible. Peter

I assume that you're talking about the inner spring. It's very tight, so you have to get the rubber gasket (bellows) fitted on the its frame, then push the bellows inside out in toward the tub. Start with placing the spring in its groove at 12 o'clock. Wedge something between the bellows and the white colored weight ring of the tub. You'll need something approx 3/4" in diameter to wedge the top of the spring in place. (I've used a 1/2"X90 degree copper elbow I had laying around that had an approx outside diameter of 3/4"). This will hold the spring in place as you work it around. It is still very difficult and you may have to stretch the spring ever so slightly to get it back into the groove. Once the spring is back on, remove the wedge, fold the bellows back out and attach the fill hose and attach bellows back to front panel.
