Hi There, Can you please specify which wheel you'd like to remove, one of the rear wheels, the spinner wheel in the front of the canister, or a wheel one of the wheels on the power nozzle. Thanks,

Thanks for the clarification. This is actually fairly simple to remove the rear wheel, however as you'll see after this has been removed, there really is no axle attached to this. It just snaps into the main canister housing. It may be that your wheel has broken, and a new wheel may fix your problem.

First here's a link to the parts shematic for your model so you can follow along:

Simply put a flat head screw driver behind the brush, and pry it off. It will easily come right off. You may inspect the wheel, and the wheel housing that it snaps into to make sure there are no obstructions, or pet hair that are slowing the wheel down. Also look at the clips that hold the wheel in place to make sure there's no debris above the clips on the wheel that could slow down the brushes also.

If it all appears to be fine, you may spray some WD40 on the part of the wheel that spins, reinsert it back in the vacuum cleaner and test to see if that fixes it. If it didn't, you might just want to purchase a new wheel assembly.

Here's a link to the rear wheel for Kenmore canisters if you'd like to purchase a new one from our website:

Hopefully that helps you. If you have any questions about how to repair this, or other questions that I did not address, simply just add a comment as you did last time, and I'll be more then happy to answer any and all of your follow up questions.

If you found this repair helpful, please be so kind and rate my repair, or leave feedback. This is really appreciated, and one of the reasons that Fixya repair professionals continue to post free repair advice on Fixya.

A soleplate wheel (Dyson Soleplate Wheel #DY-914892-01) fell off, and I don't know where to reattach it or if I need a new part (axle?).

Hi Dale,

This will indeed need an axel and these are typical made available together with a wheel from Dyson directly.

If your machine is under guarantee Dyson will likely replace the entire soleplate for you (if that is where it has fallen from).

Please contact the Dyson helpline on 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA), 0800 298 0298 (UK). Our experts will be happy to talk you through some further diagnostic checks when you have your machine easily to hand.

I hope this is useful.

Kind regards,

I'm trying to get my S7000 Miele to stand upright an lock in this position. It wont , i tried to see if foot release was jammed but cant tell it doesnt seem to release to let it move upright an lock in...

There is a rear dust cover that sometimes gets stuck, this will make it almost impossible to lock the handle up. First locate the cover which is at the rear right above the wheels. It's about 2"x8" and ribbed vertically and slides up behind the rear panel of the lower body. If it's in there and stuck, just realign it with the 2 grooves on each side or remove it completely; it is a dust shield after all. The best fix is to replace the rear panel and dust shield and they are ordered together and the cost is fairly low. Also check the alignment of the rear body panel at the bottom There are 2 tabs that protrude down about and inch on each side, the one closest to the handle release lever sometimes gets bent and causes the unit to jam. If this does not help there is one more solution involving the rear wheel assembly. check to see that the rear wheel axel is straight, meaning both wheels are parallel at all times while releasing the handle. If the axel is crooked, the wheel assembly must be replaced and you should have a Miele service center order the part and do it for you.

I have had my Kenmore 166 open a few times. There are several screws which need to be removed and a tab on each side next to the brush and a tab near the handle release lever. Use a flat head screwdriver to carefully open the tabs after the screws have been removed. You do not have to remove the screw holding the metal tab next to the handle release lever.
I have succesfully, but not easily, removed this bottom cowl a couple times without removing the wheels but it is not easy and reinstalling it is even harder. I suggest removing the wheel on the left side by removing the lock washer. Removing this wheel from the axle allows the entire axle to be slid out.

Reinstalling the cowl is a bit trickier and will require a new axlelock washer which you can get by taking the axle to any hardware store.

I have the bagless hoover windtunnel and it doesn't pick up anything and it is very hard to push. Changed the belt and The rollers are spinning and the filter has been changed. What else can I do?

It sounds like there are dirt and hair wound around the wheel axels cousing them not to spin freely. You have to remove all hair and carpet fiber. Then drop a drop of lubricant oil on the axel.
Change the filter.
You should even Check the floor nozzle for clogged dirt.

Electrolux 6985A wheel (the one on the cord side) is sticking. How do I remove it to clean out the hair or whatever is making it stick?

Most of these wheels have a push fit. the larger the diameter the tougher to reach the axle portion, but it generally has a flex cutout on at least one side which you can push in slighlty with a long flat screwdriver. Try spraying with WD 40 or silicone spray rather than remove the wheel

Floor tool wheel will not revolve on dyson dc08 origin vacuum - seems to be jammed. How do I disassemble the unit to fix the problem with the wheel. Everything seems to be clicked in. I do not want to...

The wheels on the floor tool get junked up with hair pretty quickly, at least they did for our Dyson. The metal peg that holds them in has grooved teeth to prevent it coming out easily, but it will come out if you get a claw hammer and give it a good yank. I've just done this for ours, and it was clogged up bad.

This claw hammer pic is indicative only, to actually get it off, I had a foot on the main assembly, and both hands on the handle of the hammer, the peg is stuck quite strongly.

When you get the wheel out, it will probably look like this. (this is actually a bit cleaner than it may be, as I'd already removed as much hair as humanly possible with a knife before disassembly) Once you have the wheel out, remove the peg (can just tap it out with a hammer, you may need a punch to get it all the way out. Not having a punch, I used the handle of a drill chuck, but a screwdriver would also work :) )

Give it a wipe clean, the wheel should then rotate freely on the peg. Then put the wheel back on, and drive the peg in. I've left about a millimetre of play in the wheel so as not to have it stick to the side, and hence not work again. Also, test it in both carpet and wood floor mode before putting away tools, I remember changing modes and finding that all of a sudden the wheels were sticking out an extra few millimetres.

Hope that helps

Oh, and never mind the first picture showing the entire head assembly removed, it doesn't have to be. I actually removed it all before realizing that the wheels would just come off with a hammer.

Front wheel slips off shaft

Pull the wheel off. Look on the back side of the wheel - you will see 4 plastic pins sticking out (inside the wheel) Use a pen to push on them - this way you will remove the hub cap without damaging it. Under the hub cap you will find the screw. You will need a torx T20 or Phillips crew driver (depending on what type of screw is there) to attach the wheel to the shaft with the screw. You can use a bit of a nail polish on the screw thread to keep from coming off again. DO NOT use glue or too much of nail polish or no one will be able to get the wheel of if needed some time in the future.

If hub cap nor the screw is there - you can find it all HERE.

Good Luck,
