Question about Jandy Laars LX Pool Heater / 400,000 BTU / Natural Gas

"AGS" problem. Has a new ignitor. Water flows freely.

I have a "Service" light and the "AGS" light is also lit. The skimmer/pump baskets and the filter are all clean. The pump flows freely and uniformly. I have replaced the Hot Surface Ignitor, although the ignitor's probe did not come with the kit so it is still the original. This heater was installed in 2002 and has had no repair issues until now.

    Thanks for the reply. The gas pressure is sufficient, and I have checked all other switches. I'll try cleaning the probe and see if this helps. Any other suggestions I could take with me to the job site?

The probe should be thuroughly cleaned. That may be the problem. They have to be clean in order to maintain a certain temperature. If dirty, temps fall and pilot won't stay lit. Also check your gas valve to make sure spring is not weak and you get a good flow of gas. If you have done these steps and it is still happening, then you may want to consider doing some testing of any relays and power to the system

    Also take a look at the AGS (auto-gas shutdown) system

    The AGS and service light can come on for these reasons:

    No Flame at burners

    Low gas pressure

    Low Oscillating Pump Pressure

    Check these things:

    Filter is clean, Pipe line blockage, flame sensor, and ignition problem. (dirty probe)

    This system has 6 switch/components
    Pressure switch
    Hi-Limit Switch
    Air Flow Switch
    AGS
    Temp Sensor
    and 2 extra switches

No flow light is on. Have cleaned cell, back washed filter , cleaned out basket attached to pump and basket in skimmer box. Flow light is still on.


If you are referring to a salt system and your filter is clean. You will need to replace your flow sensor.

How do i prime this swimming pool pump?


The normal procedure would be to unscrew the top of the inlet basket and fill that with water until it flow out down the inlet pipe, then replace the top cover. Make sure the skimmer box basket is clean, the pool water level is high, or put a fast running hose in the skimmer box to make sure the primed pump does not have to pull the water up from too low at the inlet.

If it will not pull the pool water in when started, then -
- there is a leak or blockage somewhere on the inlet side
- the pump impeller is damaged
- the filter is clogged too much and causing back pressure
- the pump power and pipe sizing are mismatched

Clean your filter,...
... just a slight sensing of "Lower" water flow, may trigger the sensor to read not enough water flow. Also check your impeller, your skimmer baskets & the hair and lint pot basket at the pump.
If all those are confirmed as clean & clear - then you may have a faulty flow sensor.

Pool pump surges water no steady flow


Check your water level, skimmers and weir gates, and the o-ring on the pump lid where the basket is. Air is getting in somewhere between the pool and the pump basket.

Pool cleaner starts and then stops working


Check for water flow / water flow restrictions / and water flow blockages.

Many things create water flow reductions: Dirty filters, plugged impellers, packed with debris baskets - both skimmers and at pump, closed to partially closed valves, air suction leaks: worn shaft seal, worn orings at pump lid or pump volute body, low water level, stuck skimmer weir blade/gate in the up position & skimmer empties and air is sucked into the system which may cause the pump to lose prime. This a problem that goes un-noticed and is hard to detect even by some service technicians!

Any air getting into the suction line of the system can cause a low flow. If too much trans is in the skimmer basket or pump basket you cna get a low flow. If junk is in the pump impeller or the filter the flow can be low. Check each of these possible problem and you will likely resolve it. I hope this helps.

I hooked up a new Polaris 280 pool cleaner to replace my Arneson Navigator and it doesn't move.


I would first take it out of the water and check for proper wheel RPM. If it is less than 28 RPM or you are getting no movement at all, it is going to be a problem with the power source. It is likely going to be that your booster pump is missing, malfunctioning, or is not installed properly on the pool cleaner. There are a few other things to check. Clean the skimmer, filter and pump basket, clearing any debris that restricts water flow. Check the hoses, connections and swivels for leaks. Try removing the blue restrictor disk from the UWF or if an adjustable gate valve is installed on the booster pump or cleaner line, open it completely so water can flow freely.

My zodiac pool filter is showing up with the light no flow on


Usually means the electronics in the pump has detected there is no flow through the pump. Check all inlets, clear skimmer baskets, and ensure the primer box (witht he removable see through lid near the pump itself) has water in it before starting the pump. If there is no output back into the pool, there is no actual water flow, and hence the filter will show the "no flow" light. If there is good flow through the system and the light is staying on, then probably just a problem with the light or flow sensing circuit.

All DE is NOT getting sucked into the skimmer...why? Some went in and the rest is flowing out of the skimmer into the pool


You should always mix DE with water and make a slurry mixture. When you put dry de in the skimmer it will collect in the pump basket and slow or stop the flow of water being sucked through the pump. When that happens the de will just flow away from the throat of the skimmer just like you describe.
