Question about Brother Office Equipment & Supplies

Hello, I have a BROTHER MFC-7840W. It's ON but not responding to any print jobs we're sending & it doesn't copy either. All ports are secured, I opened & closed the paper & ink cartridge areas to make sure. The light's on on the screen but no message or sign that it's picking up anything. Please help! Thanks!

I just did what you suggested but still not working.

I don't think it's anything to do with the computer connection. It's the printer itself isn't even copying. The screen is on but the usual image isn't there & it's just black lines across it. Usually it will have the grayscale on there ready for you to adjust the lighting for the doc you're going to copy.

Any ideas why it's ON (plugged in, light's on) but not responding when I press any buttons?

    Hello!
I'm having problems with my Brother MFC-7840W. It's on but not responding to anything: copying or printing.

Here's the thread I started with one expert. I did what he suggested but it's still not working. It's not so much the computer connection but the actual machine (since it's not copying either).

Thanks very much--I have just done what you suggest & I'll leave it be for half an hour. I hope it works!

    Thank you!

Hello, I did what you suggested and tried it again after more than half an hour but it's still not responding... what is a firmware update you mentioned?

Now that there is a little more description, I understand your printer/copier is having problems. It is not responding to any buttons being pressed. It may need a firmware update or need to be reset.

You should try to reset the unit.
    To reset
first switch off the unit then Disconnect the unit from power
supply/batteries then disconnect any other units connected to it, after
that Leave it disconnected for 30 minutes. It should reset itself then
    start again.

Not a problem! Let me know how it goes. It should work fine. If for some weird reason it doesn't, it may need a firmware update. But a reset should do the trick.

If you go to manufacture's website, find the download or support tab, you should see firmware downloads, then you can transfer the download to the printer. This is the software/firmware for the printer/copier itself.
If that still by chance doesn't work, then you likely have bad internal components of the printer.

Brother mfc-7840W not picking up wireless IP address

It is common, mainly because the MFC connection is lost to your PC. Are you able to print or scan from another wireless PC that you have? If yes, contact your network admin or router oem. If no, reset network card. Run the Setup Wireless Wizard. Make sure you have router info such as SSID, Network Security Key, Authentication Method (Open, Shared, WPA/WPA2-PSK), Encryption (None, WEP, AES, TKIP). Enter those info, it must be CASE SENSITIVE. Just in case you dont know your router info, contact your router oem.
For Advanced Users.1. Click your Wireless Icon at Task Tray2. Right-Click your Wireless Network Name3. Select Properties4. Go to Wireless Security Settings5. Take note of the settings that you have there and enter it again on your MFC
Goodluck! If you still need more assistance. Call us 1-877-Brother. :)

I dont think you have the network set up in the correct way. You should be using a wireless router. If it is a 4 port router, your computer network cable should be in port number 1, the printer can be be wireless or cabled into port 2 of the router. This way you have the internet and can still print wirelessly to the printer and so can anyone else.

The Brother MFC-7840W printer was installed on a USB connection. The printer worked the previous week albeit not for all applications but at least for the Vista word program. Now it doesn't respond to...

Hi there!
You can check if the usb cable is connected directly & securely from printer to your computer. Once it's verified. The display of your printer should show the date/time.
Since the printer is displaying offline you can open Control Panel, go to Printers folder right click on the printer icon and select 'Use printer online' If you have pending documents right click on the printer icon and click on cancel documents.
Try checking for a duplicate copy of your printer driver or check which printer driver is selected as the default and has the status ready.
Right click on the printer driver that has a Ready status click on printing preferences and click on print a test page.
Hope this helps! Vikroks

My Brother MFC-7840W scans into TIF files as individual pages. At my former job, we scanned directly into multi-page PDFs. What am I doing wrong?

You need to install a PDF writer program first. There arequite a few freeware PDF writer programs on the Internet you can download onesuch as CutePDF.
Scan your document the click on File - Print and select the PDF writer as theprinter device. Then name and save the PDF file. http://www.cutepdf.com/
