Whenever i put in an xbox360 game disc (such as Forza Motorsport 2) i can hear the xbox360 attempt to read the disc, but as it does so, it makes a weird vibrating noise. it then makes a winding down noise, then it starts vibrating again. the vibrations are once every second, not continuous. However, if i put in an original xbox game, such as burnout 3 or halo 2, it has no problem playing the disc, along with movies and music, etc. I'm not understadning whats wrong, because the discs are clean as u cud ever have them, they're not getting scracthed when i put them in, and im not getting any red lights. does anyone know what the problem could possibly be?
Hi I have the same problem my xbox360 is not reading any of my games(GTA4,C&C Tiberium Wars,CoD4,Halo3,Oblivion,Bioshock etc..) one day it just stopped reading the game disks. Apperently there is a component in the DVD-Rom that gets magnitised and and then sticks to the top of the DVD-Rom drive, dont ask why or how, but there is a video on youtube that show how you can slide a thin piece of cardboard between the disk and the top of the drive while xbox attempts to read the disk and it works. BUT NOT A PERMENANT FIX. If anyone knows of a better solution please post

When last did you clean the pick up lens on the console? Sounds like the pick up lens is not reading the disc, any hard collisions on the console recently? If you have the correct lens cleaner at hand I would advise a cleaning asap, see if this solves the issue.
Likely that for some reason the Xbox is having a hard time reading the disc and it is spinning the drive trying to search for files on the disk. If you aren't having the same issue with other games then recommend to resolve this issue then simply install the game onto your hard drive and the game will then only need to be accessed for verification only and the game will be played off your hard drive and not your disk drive. Here are the instructions for insalling a game to your hard drive:
Install Xbox 360 games on your hard drive from a game disc
Note Installing an Xbox 360 game on a hard drive requires between 4 and 8 gigabytes (GB) of free disc space.
Insert the game disc into the disc drive.
Note After you insert the disc, the default option is to automatically start the game. If the game starts, exit the game, and return to the Xbox Dashboard.
From the Xbox Dashboard, go to My Xbox.
Select the game you want to install.
Press Y on your controller.
Select Install to Hard Drive.
A progress indicator appears while your game is being installed on your hard drive.
Installing an Xbox 360 game might take several minutes.
Multidisc game? Install each disc to your hard drive.
Play a game from your hard drive
Insert the game disc into the disc drive.
Go to My Xbox, and select the name of the game you want to play.
Note The game disc must be in the disc drive, even though you have installed the game on your hard drive. The console will automatically play the game from your hard drive, but the disc has to be present.
The problem you are facing is possibly due to a white lever near the dvd tray that is out of alignment, how do you align your console while playing Horizontal or vertical ?
try changing console position and check if it makes any difference, do not try experimenting much if your console is under MS support warranty, send it straight away for repairs they would replace the dvd drive for you
