Question about Garden

Hi, I have a honda 13.5 twin cut ride on mower. It's about 5 years old. I used it 2 weeks ago no problem but I tried to start it yesterday but it wouldn't start. The battery is full as a charged it again yesterday and it onlt took a few minutes. The key is turning to position one and the yellow light is coming on. But when turning to position 2 there isn't a peep out of it and the yellow light flashes. The blades lever is disengaged but in position at the back, battery connected properly, brake off, spark plug dry, full of petrol, full of clean oil. Can you help? Garreth

Put the brake on,then check the seat safety switch and make sure it is being fully depressed to make contact(check with a continuity tester) that yellow flashing light is a warning that something isn't in the correct position to safely start the macnine, also make sure the transmission is in neutral, wiggle the transmission lever when trying to start it,there is a safety switch in the tranny to keep it from starting if in gear accidentally

If the spark plug is dry sounds like maybe the fuel cut off is still shut? If you try and start the plug should be at least wet if its not firing but turning over. If it is not turning over the battery may be drained from something being left on or just has a bda cell. Try and charged it or replace the battery.

I have a Bush Hog zero turn mower with a Honda GVX620 V Twin engine. When it had less than 5 hours on it it ran fine after mowing and but the next time i tried starting the mower it flooded badly enough...

It very well could be the vent tube. I suggest you remove the air filter and air filter cover. On the left side of the carburetor is a vent tube. Remove the vent tube and try gently blowing into the tube. If you are unable to blow without restriction, the tube is blocked. Clear the block with compressed air if that is available. Reattach the vent tube, the filter cover and the the filter and you will be pleased to discover the flooding issue is resolved. This is a common problem with this engine. Newer versions have an internal vent and do not have the same issue.

The mower is about 5 years old. The batterY is two years OLD and the tractor will start with a jumper battery box. When I try to crank the engine, the starter sounds like its binding but after a few...

Not necessarily the battery can be weak with a small internal failure and can cause the issue of shorting out and not staying charged. This is very common on small batteries for these mowers. The replacement batteries you get at the hardware stores are the worst culprits for going bad after just a year or 2. The main battery that comes with the tractor are usually much stouter than the replacements. Before we tear intot he charging system I would suggest a new battery or hook up a temporary car battery if you have one to see if the guage acts up, or if you have a volt ohm meter test the charging system by reading the battery as it is running. It should be between 13 and 14 volts if it is worrking correct. You can also use the old stanby tried and tested method of pulling the positve cable off the battery after the mower has been started and see if it stays running. This will give us a base to proceed from. Let me know what you have tried and what you find.

Poulan 38" riding mower.

Battery is likely dead - or has built a sediment bridge - shorting the anode and cathode.
Jump-start the tractor with your vehicle - or another battery to check.

Or - use a multimeter to ensure your battery is not draining to 0V when you attempt to start.
This also indicates a failed battery. It may have a decent float charge - but when the load starter) is applied - the voltage will drop right out.

Thanks for using FixYa!!

Hi, yes you can. You will need to take the model, type and code numbers with you to a Kohler or Honda dealer. Either will have a listing on an equivalent engine. Regards Phil.

Engine drags while trying to start

It may be a problem with the camshaft-compression release. Some of the Briggs & Stratton models had a weak spring on the compression release whis is parts of the camshaft. you may also want tocheck that all wires are clean and tight. Also if it's a over head valve model check the valve clearance.
