Hello, my Bush television has developed a colour problem; Model: RF2194D, 11AK30 chassis. Using a generator, monochrome is perfect, however, switching to a red raster, at top and bottom of screen there is a weak red splurge and from east and west there is a weak blue splurge. Unless you state the make and model it's impossible to tell you for certain, but most digital cameras have that option.

In practice though, it's a bad idea. It's always better to shoot in colour and then convert afterwards: there's more information captured so you can use the colour data to manipulate the monochrome image, and once you choose to shoot in monochrome to start with you can never get the colour data back again.

Manipulating the unwanted colour data on a pc means that you can correct washed out cloudy skies to make them more dramatic and can choose which colours in the image are light or dark on the monochrome image. Think of things like red lipstick, for example. It's easy if you shoot in colour to ensure that the lips are sharply defined by making red the dark colour to contrast with lighter skin tones. You don't need expensive programs or knowledge, just the control sliders in the bog-standard picture viewers in Mac and Windows will do the job. Always save any edits as a copy of the original to preserve the original data.

If you still wish to shoot in monochrome then add a comment with details of your camera make and model and I'll try to provide further assistance.

If the DTR is set to S Video out then it will give a monochrome piscture as the colour content is not being picked up due to the TV Receiver.
Re set the DTR to Composite Video Output.

You can set the camera up to capture images in black and white, or more accurately, monochrome (always a bad idea) but your camera cannot convert a colour image into monochrome after capturing it in colour. I'm unaware of any cameras able to do so as it just takes too much processing power.

By far the best way is to always capture the image in colour and to then use pc/Mac software afterwards to convert. The recorded colour information is of great use in giving added tonal depth to a monochrome image and can be used to simulate the effects of using the coloured filters which monochrome photography relies on to alter image contrast.

This model of TV uses the ITC222A chassis. This is a common problem in this unit. The problem is usually centered around 4 capacitors (CP140, CP150, CP110, and CP114) They usually vent (becom bloated or puffy) and develop an internal short which causes the TV to shut down. This is usually caused by power surges (even when connected to a surge protector). The repair for this problem does not cost much, and I would suggest that you have a TV repair technician examine this TV due to the other problems that can happen with this chassis (ITC222A).

You will find the model number on the back of the TV. It's usually a square white sticker with all the info of the set (chassis type, model number, power rating etc).

When you have all the info, go on the web and do a search and I'm fairly certain you'll find a replacement. A generic type will do all the functions of your original - unless you want an original one of course! But I would advise against cheap code type remotes that will not do everything. (:-)
