While using Casio fx-300ES , I am unable to get answers in decimals. For eg. 3/10...should give 0.3, but the answer is again displayed as 3/10. any way to solve this issue?

The calculator has two Input/Output modes: MathIO and LineIO.

LineIO
LineIO is the old way of entering numbers in calculators and results are always displayed as decimal numbers. Some calculators have a fraction feature and would convert a fraction to a decimal number and back.

MathIO
In MathIO you enter expressions as you would by hand or as you see them written in textbooks.
In this mode, results are by default displayed as fraction or fractions/ radicals.
Conversion
To convert the fraction/radical to decimals you just press the [SD] key. If you press again you cycle through all the available display formats.
So you can (if you want) use the MathIO to manipulate expressions and convert only the last result to decimal. By the way, fractions and radicals are generally more accurate than their decimal representations.

SetUP
If however seeing fractions and radicals is too painful, just set the LineIO as your default mode. To do so press [SHIFT][MODE] to open (SETUP), then select [2:LineIO]

Hey , how can i do percentage and fractions on the ti 84 plus silver edition ? Thxxx :D

There is no key nor command to calculate percentages. But that is easy to correct.

Percentages
To go from a decimal result to a percentage, move the decimal mark 2 places to the right. If you have no decimal mark as with integers, put a decimal mark at the end of the number pad it with zeros, then move the decimal mark 2 places to the right.
Ex: 0.73 in % gives 73.0%
Ex: 2.33 in % gives 233.00 %
Ex: 5 in % 5=5.00 becomes 500%

Fractions
The calculators has a command to convert a decimal number to a fraction. The command is called >Frac or To frac. You find it under the MATH key.

Enter a number (decimal or fraction)
Press [MATH][1:>Frac]
Command echoes on main screen after the number you entered.
Press [ENTER] the result is displayed as a fraction.
  1. If the number entered or stored in answer memory is a decimal number it will be converted to a fraction.
  2. If the number you entered is a fraction, the result will be displayed as a fraction but REDUCED to its simplest terms.
  3. For example 6/9 becomes 2/3
OS version 2.53MP

The TI 84PLUS and TI84PLUS Silver edition OS has seen a major upgrade to version 2.53 M(ath)P(rint). If you play a lot with fractions this new OS will allow you to do a lot more than what is described above.

Here is the link to download the new OS version. It cannot be transferred to a TI83PLUS or TI83PLUS SE.

Answers in decimals

The calculator has two Input/Output modes, MthIO and LineIO. In MthIO the results are displayed as fractions or as radicals or a mixture of fractions and radicals. What it means, is that in MthIO the calculator does exact calculations. Radicals in denominators are gotten rid of by rationalization, fractions are reduced to the same denominators before addition or subtraction. Fractions are reduced to simplest form.

In LineIO all results are displayed as decimal numbers.

If a result is exact (fractions and radicals) it can be changed to decimal form by pressing the S To D key, the one above the DEL key.

MthIO is the default IO mode. To set it, press SHIFT MODE and select 1:MthIO. To set LineIO as the IO mode, press SHIFT MODE and select 2:LineIO

When I divide the answer is in fraction form not decimal form how do i get it back

There are two options.

1) Whenever you want the answer in decimal form, place a decimal after at least one of the numbers.
For example: instead of using (1/2) use (1/2.)

2) Press the "Mode" button. Scroll down the list that appears until you find "Exact/Approx". If you set it to "Approximate", then it will always give the answer in decimal form. If you set it to "Exact", it will give the answer in fraction form.

I ask a dividing question like: 8 divided by 10, and it gives it in a fraction how to I cheange a setting so it gives the answer in a decimal?

Hello,
If a number is displayed as a fraction or a radical (square root or other roots) you change it into a decimal number by pressing the [S<=>D] key, just above the red [DEL] key.
If you do not care for fractions or radicals, you configure your calculator to display only decimals. To do that you press [SHIFT][MODE][2:LineIO].
Warning: If you do that you will not be able to enter fractions or radicals in the natural (textbook display)
Another way to display a fraction or a radical as a decimal is to press [SHIFT][=] to get the result not the [=] alone.

Hope it helps.

Problems with fractions on the Casio fx-115es

Hello,
To convert fractions to decimals or decimals to fractions, you use the [S<->D] key. Each time you press the key the result is displayed in the other format.
Alternatively, If you multiply or divide two integer numbers put a decimal mark at the end of one of the numbers (any one). The result will be displayed in decimal format.

Hope it helps.

When I divide answers are always given in Fractions. Can I change it to come out in decimals?

To change from Fraction display to Decimal display on the Casio fx-300ES (and probably other calculators)

1) Press the "SHIFT" button
2) Press the "MODE/SETUP" button
3) Press the "2" button
This Changes it to LINEIO (Decimal)

Doing all of the above but pressing the "1" button instead of the "2" puts it back into MATHIO mode (Fraction)

Hope this Helps

(SHIFT)(MODE/SETUP)(2) to change to decimal
