Question about GE Spacemaker JVM1640SJ Microwave Oven

Sounds sluggish and then automatically shuts off

GE Spacemaker 2.0, Model # JVM2050BH03, less than 4 years old. Only repair thusfar is I had to replace a burned out turntable motor. When we turn on the microwave, it sounds "sluggish" and then automatically shuts down completely as if it has lost it's power source. We unplug and then re-plug and microwave turns back on but still remains "sluggish". Same problem occurs again.

Have a GE Spacemaker 2.0 microwave, M#JVM2050BH03. Microwave sounds "sluggish" when initially turned on and then shuts down completely (loses all power) after about 3 minutes into the cooking cycle (as if it's overheating). Then about 5 minutes later, power is automatically restored. Have changed the charcoal and cleaned other filters. Recently changed out turntable motor (but it is working).

If the lights dim in the oven when it sounds sluggish, your high voltage capacitor could be beginning to short out and drawing too much current, its under the cover,be very careful and discharge it before touching it in case, because it can store +2100 volts A.C.,then also check the front to back resistance of the high voltage diode as these can leak and cause similar problems,if these are both o.k. then suspect the magnetron tube for drawing too much current,if it shuts down unplug it and again discharge the cap then put your hand near the side of the magnetron and see if its hot this may draw too much current and make the unit run slow and sluggish, then have an ampere draw run on it and see how much its drawing per the specs of the unit

also while at it there could be a weak thermistor on the magnetron tube near the top and on the side of the mag body,it has 2 wires connected to it and if the mag gets too warm this component opens up to shut off power to the unit to prevent overheating, sometimes they get weak from heat/age and need replaced

I have GE Profile microwave model PVM1870SM1SS and last week while running, suddently it shut off. There is no power, display buttons and stopped running. Please advise.

From the description a major part has failed, the magnetron is suspect because it suddenly shut down in cycle, if the unit is less than 7 years old it probably has a inverter board and tends to fail, also there is the possibility the keypad control board has stopped working. The microwave in my opinion is worth getting checked out and repaired, but it will be expensive.

this sounds like the magentron may be going. have you had any issues with it not heating? check your warranty book, some mags have a 3-5 year warranty, otherwise it's probably not worth repairing.

Microwave on but does not heat

If it is less than 5 years old, it is probably worth it to fix it. Sounds like a magnetron. The part should be covered by GE

If it's less than one year old, it should be fully covered under warranty.

I'd suggest contacting the manufacturer to get it fixed free or better still, if you've had it less than 30 days, I'd have the dealer replace it.

GE Customer Service is here.

It sounds like the door or door switch mounts are misaligned. It may have been damaged in shipping.

2 1/4 year old GE Spacemaker XL 1850 Microwave doesn't heat

Check this website:

http://www.partselect.com/microwave+no-heat+repair.htm

It sounds like it is either the power diode, the high voltage capacitor or the magnetron. If it is the magnetron, it may not be worth fixing as these can cost well over $100.

Do you hear a buzzing sound?
