Hi Donna.

The camcorder goes in safeguard mode when an internal fault is being detected.

This is often caused b a defective tape.

Ensure that the battery pack is fully charged and test using a different tape.

If the problem is only with cleaning tape, that is normal. The JVC camcorder will see the cassette as faulty and goes on safeguard.

On JVC you have to use JVC cleaning cassette: JVC DCL-5AU Digital "S" Head-Cleaning Cassette - for Digita DCL5AU

About your model I wanted to add that the GR-DVL320EA is a mini-dv recorder. Here the cassette for this model:

You do not need to use a new tape. You need to use JVC cleaning tape only. If you used a generic cleaning tape, you can have damaged the camera.

Try removing the battery to reset and restart the camera with no tape. If it goes in safeguard, then the camera is faulty. Call JVC in that case.

I am sorry about the negative rating received. The question will be passed to a different expert.

    Goodbye.

    Ginko.

Safeguard mode is an indication that the tape path has a problem. This mode will stop all functions so that a tape won't get damaged. This can be caused by a bad motor, a broken gear or any number of other things. Without seeing the camera, it is near impossible to determine the exact cause. Your best bet is to get a detailed repair estimate from a local servicer. Post the information here and we may be able to guide you through the actual repair.

Gr-dvl-520u trying to record or playback tape it goes into safeguard mode within 5 seconds. alternatly pressing play and still every 3 seconds advanced the playback without it going into safeguard mod

According to http://www.techlore.com/article/10974/JVC-Camcorder-Stuck-in-Safe-Mode/,

"JVC notes that you are also given a malfunction code when the unit is placed into safeguard. If it displays code 01, 02, or 06 you should remove
the battery and powersupply and wait for a while. Code 03 and 04 indicate that you should eject and reinsert the tape.

If neither of these solutions work, your only alternative is to bring it to a shop or send it to JVC for diagnosis or repair. Unfortunately, there is no other way to clear the condition."

If you are getting E03 or E04 errors on every tape you try, it sounds like a servicing is required.

My camcorder goes into safeguard mode EO3 when I try to clean it.

I have had the same problem with a different model JVC. I haven't been able to fix it yet, but there were a bunch of people on a different forum that were able to fix that error code quite simply. With a tape in the machine, flip the lever to eject the tape, then as soon as you hear the motor start to whir, quickly close the door.
It didn't help me, but like I said, several people reported that that action fixed the EO3 error.

Unit in safeguard mode

You mix te info with Write protected tapes.
Safe guard mode is caused by the motor that takes the tape out of it's case, through the mechanics and past the video head.
If for some reason the electronics detect that it's been done by too much force, the safe guard issue promts.
