Question about ASUS P5B Deluxe Motherboard

1 Answer

Change of serial number (BIOS, motherboard)?

Please, how can I change serial number?

I need to exactly identify each PC in my network. The serial number seems to be the best way (name of PC, IP address, data in registryDB - that everything can easily change).

I use WMI question "select identifyingNumber from Win32_ComputerSystemProduct" to get serial number of PC. Nearly every PCs of my network give mi their SN (there are hundreds of them) but there are two of them that five me string "System Serial Number". They both have ASUS motherboards with ASUS P5B-Deluxe ACPI BIOS Revision 1238.

I want to use SN as a primary key of my list of computers.

So the question is simple - how can I change serial number, please?

Thank you for your time.

The serial number is encoded in the CMOS chip. You will have to see if ASUS provides a utility. ASUS is a great company and I am sure they will be able to asist you.

How to change from parallel to serial

Hi,

if your PC has a serial port I'd think the motherboard should have a parallel port header on board. What you'd need to find would then (if my idea is right) just be a parallel port bracket for your computer (to be mounted at the back, in one of the plugin card spaces) which should come with a standardized connector to fit the header on the motherboard. After connection make sure that the parallel port is enabled in your BIOS

Can't get english

You can change the language settings
Click start control panel regional and language options select regional language options from the drop down list select the language you want also from the bottom drop up list you can select your present location location or another language.
also download language packs
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/language-packs
Most BIOS versions included a language option
Get the computer manufacturer and your computer model number.
If it is available, go to the manufacturer site and look for BIOS & Firmware upgrades.

Most BIOS versions included a language option
When your PC is starting up, press the Setup key.
This is usually Del, F2, or F12.
The key, however differs with each machine.
It should be stated on the screen for a very short time which key is the setup key
You can change the bios settings by using the ARROW KEYS select it press enter and exit then press the F10 key to save to cmos and restart
If your not sure or you have made any wrong bios changes you can set failsafe or optimised defaults
If you are unable to change the bios language settings the bios might need to be updated or bios chip might need to be changed or flashed
Before flashing the BIOS do a search on BIOS flash and read the caveats.
Backup your current BIOS and only flash if it is absolutely necessary!!
If the computer vendor is unknown or unavailable, try to identify the motherboard vendor and model number if you can, BIOS updates are specifically associated with motherboard versions:

My pc have a following configuration:1 gb ram, npentium d processor, intel 945 original motherboard recently i change my 80 gb hard disk to 500gb new harddisk but pc get hang even if pc is clean formatted...

WOW- a really tough one... it sounds like a BIOS conflict.

My best advice is to go to the Intel website and check the known issues forum and see if the problem has been identified. It sounds like you are pretty good with computers and that did everything right, and that is why I suspect a BIOS problem with your particular configuration.

Intel is very good about putting updates out, so see if there is a BIOS upgrade for your motherboard. Be certain to follow the procedure EXACTLY if you need to "flash" your BIOS. It is critical that you back up your BIOS as specified, so if there are any problems, you can go back to your current configuration. Good Luck!

Given that the BIOS reports "10/17/2000", it's time to REPLACE the motherboard, if you can find a motherboard that fits into your current case, and has the I/O connectors (keyboard/mouse/video) in the "correct" position.
