windows movie maker doesn't recognize mpeg 4 files. you need to use the software that came with your camcorder, or you might try downloading another player by doing a search for mpeg 4 editing programs. one other option is Media Converter (also media converter pro) there you can convert the files to avi or wmv that win movie maker can use.
You can add content to your Windows Movie Maker project either by capturing content directly in Windows Movie Maker or by importing existing digital media files.
You can also import existing Windows Media-based content as well as other common file formats.
You can import files with the following file name extensions into Windows Movie Maker to use in your project:
Video files: .asf, .avi, .m1v, .mp2, .mp2v, .mpe, .mpeg, .mpg, .mpv2, .wm, and .wmv
step one . download prism video converter http://www.nchsoftware.com/prism/index.html then drag the file into that and convert to WMV then add to windows movie maker and then you are done!
please go to the following website to get the software which in turn converts your .mod files to .wma(windows media player) file. and then your movie maker will be able to recognize those files. www.wma-mp3.net/download/wmamp3_converter.exe
Windows Movie maker does not support a number of MPEG2 codecs (there are many different MPEG2 codecs, only some of them are supported by moviemaker). The easiest thing to do is to get a program to convert your MPEG2 to another format - like avi or wmv. A free program which should do the hob for you is mediacoder which you can download from sourceforge. Here's the link to mediacoder There are also plenty of other programs out there - my favourite is AnyVideoConverter, a free version of which you can download here That should solve you problem.
try burning onto a dvd from adobe then manually uploading the footage from the dvd to the movie maker. Sometimes movie maker will not do auto if footage is out of focus....balance....or is too shakey.
I think the problem lies with Windows Movie Maker,..try another video editing application. Heres a list of some of the good ones. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_video_editing_software
