WARNING: this process will erase all songs off the GoGear.
Disconnect the GoGear from computer.
Turn the GoGear off.
Hold in the volume + button.
Reconnect the GoGear while holding in the volume + button.
Continue holding the volume + button.
After 5-50 seconds, Windows will pop-up a "Found New Hardware Wizard." - complete the wizard (BTW, you can take your hand ff the volume + button now).

Does it list any songs? Songs transferred from many music services may appear as tracks with a "0:00" play time - this is because the songs do not have transfer DRM encryption on them (or because the files were transferred as streaming tracks rather than data tracks - common with the Napster music service).

To turn OFF the player, use the reset method - remove and reinsert the battery.

Also, here is some useful info from Philips own website:

The device appears to be dead, it will not power on and there is nothing on the display.

    Answer

button is not pressed and held long enough. To activate the unit, press and hold the until the screen lights up.
The battery may be dead, use a new battery.
The GoGear may freeze or lock up. Do a soft reset by removing and re-inserting the battery.
The firmware of your GoGear may be corrupted.

If you have not already installed the Device Manager, follow the on screen instructions to install the Device Manager from the installation CD.
Insert a new battery into your GoGear.
Launch the Device Manager at Start->Programs->Philips-> Philips digital audio player SA2xx on your PC.
IMPORTANT: All music & content of your GoGear will be erased once the factory setting is restored.
A dialogue box will pop up for selecting to restore either Philips or Philips SD card. Select Philips and then click Restore and OK to confirm.

Similar procedure for restoring the mini SD card to its factory setting.
Follow all screen instructions to complete the restoration.
The Device Manager will close automatically once the success message is displayed. Safely remove your GoGear by clicking on the EJECT HARDWARE icon in your task tray bar. When prompted, “The USB Mass Storage Device can now be safely removed from the system”, click OK and unplug your micro jukebox.

How do i put music on my philips gogear sa261

If some CD came with it, pop in the CD and do what it tells you to. If not, than you can use Windows Media Player and sync the music from there. There is a small "Sync" tab on the top of the media player, and plug in your device and it will recognize than you start putting the songs on it.
