Question about Philips Televison & Video

1 Answer

I purchased a Philips PET1030 portable DVD player: 10.2" Multi Region Zonefree Portable DVD Player in April 2009. Recently, it began to stop playing DVDs, giving me a message that the tray was open. Pressing down on the tray cover made it reload the DVD. It happened often enough that I began using a paperback book to weight down the cover, and for awhile this worked. However, the problem recurred, with increasing frequency, until it finally reached a point that it won't load a DVD at all. I've tried numerous disks, and they all give me a message that no disk is placed in the player. Where can I get this problem repaired? I suspect that this model is no longer being made. Amazon.com only lists the availability of refurbished players, not new items. Isn't that what I would be getting if I repaired the one I have? The two that are listed for sale on amazon are priced at $139 and $159. I believe I paid about $220 for the new player a year ago. Do you know what the approximate cost of repair might be in comparison? Thanks Pat Phoenix AZ

Thank you, Silverdragon. Can you recommend a multiregion portable DVD player that is comparable in size and features to the Philips player I now have?

I get similar ones to this from time to time in my shop. Unfortunately, when this happens, there really is no economic repair, What happens is the tray assembly, goes faulty and over time gets worse and worse until, as you have experienced, it fails completely. I don't think there are very good unit. I DO NOT recommend you get this repaired, and recommend that you source some other, almost any other unit. To give you an idea, the entire replacement assembly, costs ME, $124.00.... Now thats without any labor, and anything else. I find frequently, that these type of units are simply NOT economically repairable. Also, even IF repaired successfully, you still have an inferior unit, that has been repaired. In my professional advice is to obtain a better quality unit, also ensure you get a Warranty on the new one.

I have a sumsung dvd-L300 portable player. Do I need a converter or transformer to use it in Europe?

I think so, DVD region codes are a DRM scheme. DVD videodiscs may be encoded with a region code restricting the area of theworld in which they can be played.

Thecommercial DVD player specification requires that a player to be soldin a given place not play discs encoded for a different region (region0 discs are not restricted).

so if you want to making the DVD region free, watch and copy multi region-coded DVD on any DVD player and any DVDplayer software, back up protected DVD to computer and convert DVDMovie to play on iPod iPhone PSP, et portable players, you have toremove DVD region code.

Here we have one great software "Daniusoft DVD Ripper"which can remove region code from any DVD. Not just remove DVD regioncode and copy DVD to computer with 1:1 lossless quality, Daniusoft DVDRipperis also capable of converting DVD Movie to other Video auidoformat to play on portable players like iPod, iPhone, Zune, PSP,Blackberry, etc.
