I got a tip on here about these mybooks by western digital. what is happening is ether a bad power supply even know it turns on do not be fouled or a bad usb to sata controller inside the case of the drive itself. now what you can do is 3 things:

1. call WD for a replacment
2. forget WD open the drive and take the unit out of it the hard drive is a 1TB cavier GREEN and put it in your computer or buy a new case for it.
3. external drive enclosure you can buy from like amazon.

You will need to recover the data using something like asoftech data recovery program.
http://www.asoftech.com/adr/

I've had to use it many times in the past but in this case you need to plug that drive into another Windows system as an external drive or slave drive and run the software from there. It will rebuild the drive and hopefully recover the files.
Good luck.

Hi there I have formatted my 1TB Western for a MAC but cannot transfer data to a HP... How do I reformat so that it is compatible with all computers please? Can I do this without deleting/removing...

If you format it for a PC, both the MAC and PC should be able to read it.
If not, there is a product called MACDrive that you can put on your PC that will allow you to read MAC formatted disks on your PC.

I CAN'T FIND MY CAM IN MY ACER 3680

PLEASE FOLLOW THESE SAME PROCEDURES FOR INSTALLING YOUR ACER CAM windows7_Driver_1.00.01.zip file and save to your desktop. Use a file compression software to unzip the file located inside MyBook_vista_windows7_Driver_1.00.01.zip to your desktop. You will now see a file called "MyBook_vista_windows7_Driver_1.00.01.exe" or "MyBook_vista_windows7_Driver_1.00.01" on your desktop. Double-click on "MyBook_vista_windows7_Driver_1.00.01.exe" or "MyBook_vista_windows7_Driver_1.00.01" to launch the driver installation program. The wizard will display a message saying that it is ready to install the driver, click Next. Accept the license Agreement and click Next Click Install to start the installation of the drivers. The driver will be installed without further interaction and should take only a few seconds to install. When the installation is finished, click Finish to close the installation utility. Reboot the computer system before connecting the My Book Essential or Premium Edition hard drive. After connecting the My Book Essential or Premium Edition hard drive, Windows will automatically detect the unit and a new hard drive icon will appear in the My Computer window. Your My Book Essential or Premium Edition hard drive should now be ready to use.

Wd My book, mac and windows

Plug it into your mac, open "Disk Utility" select your Hard Drive in the list to the side, click "RAID" change the Volume Format to MS-DOS (FAT). Now unplug it, plug it into your PC, open "My Computer" right click your Hard Drive and click "Format" change to FAT(it might be FAT 32, or something else). Click "Format." This should work.
hope it helps!

Want to install Quick verse 7 on Vista

the Quick verse 7 was made only for 95 98 2000 and XP but you can try this method on how to install the QV 7 on winXP sp3

"Install QuickVerse Essentials version 7 on WinXP w/sp3

Place the QuickVerse version 7 Essentials CD into optical drive & close tray. This begins the auto run / install process. (Please do not remove CD until right at the end!)

Installation menus appear. Accept the defaults and choose “Typical Installation” (85Mb)

Message box appears at the end of the installation: “QuickVerse installation has encountered a problem and needs to close” Choose “Don’t Send” The installation program exits.

Navigate to: Start Button / All Programs / Parsons / QuickVerse 7 / (from drop down list) find “QuickVerse 7.0” and right click on it. Select “Send To Desktop”

Click on the new QuickVerse 7.0 desktop icon to run the program.

Dialog Box appears, “The librarian datafile library.mdb not found etc…” Select “New” / "Open Book" dialog box appears click on “Close”

Now with QuickVerse 7.0 running go to File / Add Books. “Registration Guide – Introduction” box appears. Choose “Next” The path to the new collection to register should identify the optical drive (with the QuickVerse CD already inserted) Choose “Next”, “Next” and “Finish” ("Registering STEP Books" msg box appears)

Customize Option: select “No” (default) then “OK”

Go to File / Library management. “Library Management – Maintenance” box appears
The Left Hand (LH) pane shows:
Default Drive
QuickVerse Essentials

Highlight QV Essentials in the LH pane. The RH pane shows all the books present on the CD. I chose to install only the NRSV w/Apocrypha book. Drag and drop this book to the LH pane i.e. Default Drive.

“Transferring Book Files” msg box appears whilst the book is being copied from the CD to the hd.

Close the dialog, exit the program, remove the CD and you’re away…"

hope this helps./

Win98se i did it ... HERE'S HOW

OK, I bought this Western Digital MyBook 500 GB Essential Edition too, and could not get it to work with Windows 98 SE.

I followed the above instructions, but my version of windows was missing even the drivers suggested above! UGH!

HOWEVER, I found ANOTHER SOLUTION. I installed USB 2.0 drivers for mass storage and the the MY BOOK icon popped up on my Windows 98 SE machine. Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!

Here are the drivers from this british webpage:
http://www.technical-assistance.co.uk/kb/win98se-usb-mass-storage-drivers.php

Good luck to all you frustrated folks scooping your info off Windows 98 machines!
