My Lexmark Z45 printer thinks I have no colour ink cartridge installed, but its definitely there, and not low in ink. I tried taking it out and reinstalling it, with no effect. Turning the printer off, then back on again didn't help either. If I try printing, where there should be colour, it comes out blank. Any suggestions would be appreciated, regards, Malcolm.

When did this start happening?
After a long time not being used, the ink dryes and clogs the heads. Try cleaning the heads and install a new ink cartridge. Run any fresh install that is issued with the printer.
Take out all cartridges, switch printer off and then on again and let printer see that there are no cartridges. Do this 5 times, it resets the cartridges. Then install refilled cartridges
I would like to inform you that Lexmark printers does not support refilled cartridges. Please note that #33 cartridge is know as a rushmore cartridge and in this cartridge it has memory chip on it to identifiy the ink estimation. hence it is not possible to change the low ink indication.
Please note: using refilled cartridge may void ur printer warranty.
Have trawled all over the web...untill I found a sloution that worked for me!
1 Take out what looks like the battery pack ( your wire, plugs into this )
2 Ensure the green light goes out ( two pieces of wire crossing over at the contact point( like trying to fuse the battery ) will make the light go out immediately )
3 Take out the ink cartridge, Clean the ink cartridge with alcohol ( I used GIN! )..clean the internal contacts for the cartridge as well.
4 When dry ( let dry naturally )...put back the ink cartridge
5 Put back the "battery pack" and mains connection into this pack.
6 turn back on....system thinks you are low / out of ink but allows you to print..hope this works for you
I think you printer cartridge as sensor which ink levels as it is failed in the black cartridge ,you can either clean the contacts the printer and cart with dry tissue paper and replace and set printer installing new cart or use it like this because the printer company doe not support refilled cartridges to be used .
