Question about Computers & Internet

3 Answers

I have a HP Pavillion DV6000 laptop. It has a Slimtype A DVD/CD burner. I'm trying to burn a DVD on my laptop, and my laptop does have the ability to burn DVD's, at least it should. Now on the side where my burner is it says, RW DVD+RW DL. Now to me that says that my computer is able to burn DVD ReWritable Dual Layer discs. Okay. So then it says next to that, "Compact Disc ReWritable, high speed" So that tells me that my burner should read DVD+RW? Anyway I tried burning a Memorex DVD+R and it did not work. So now I just bought a different kind of disc. Well they didn't have anything other than Memorex at the store so I got Memorex DVD+RW. On the package it says 4X - 4.7GB/Go 120 min. Now I'm trying to burn this. It should work shouldn't it? If not, what do I need to do!

I've used Nero, ImToo, ImgBurn, DVD Fab, DivX... all kinds. And my burner burns CD's so I know the burner must work.

  • zomgashley Apr 27, 2010

Okay this is my third time trying to post this comment lolz. So here we go. I've tried using Nero, DVD Fab, ImToo, Img Burn, and DivX Burning software, and not one of them have worked. I'm not sure what could be wrong. I've even updated my drivers and uninstalled and reinstalled them. They should work.

  • zomgashley Apr 27, 2010

    Are my comments working?

  • zomgashley Apr 27, 2010

it's not allowing me to comment help!

  • zomgashley Apr 27, 2010

The comment board wasn't working for me so I'm trying this. What I was trying to type to the first solution was yes, I have tried other burning software. I've used Nero, DVD Fab, Img Burn, ImToo and all sorts of burning software and none of it has worked. I've even updated the driver and uninstalled and reinstalled it. What else can I do?

  • zomgashley Apr 27, 2010

I'm burning .iso or .vob I've tried both. And I have used Nero, dVDfAB, ImToo, ImgBurn, etc. Nero never works. None of them do. I've also tried to uninstall and reinstall my dvd drive. It's slimtype A.

  • zomgashley Apr 27, 2010

    How do I do that?

  • zomgashley Apr 27, 2010

Okay I'm going to try burning something. Could you help me update my firmware? Maybe that could be it too? I jusst don't know where to find the update.

  • zomgashley Apr 27, 2010

ok just got an error : Windows was unable to format

  • zomgashley Apr 27, 2010

and I've tried DVD+R discs and I've made sure that they would fit, the files.

  • zomgashley Apr 27, 2010

    tried Nero doesn't work.

  • zomgashley Apr 27, 2010

okay that will give me time to do a few things Hal

  • zomgashley Apr 27, 2010

Drift I've tried Nero and everything and it doesn't work.

  • zomgashley Apr 27, 2010

okay just read that drift. But I honestly don't think it's the Nero thing. Maybe I should get DVD-R or DVD-RW's because I've been using DVD+R and DVD+RW, but maybe I should try DVD+RW DL because it says that on the side of my burner? I just don't get why these brand new DVD+RW's wouldn't work? It doesn't make any sense. I hate HP!

  • zomgashley Apr 27, 2010

I'm downloading this version of Nero. I deleted my old one. Hopefully this works.

  • zomgashley Apr 27, 2010

When I tried installing the file you gave me it said that it was not compatible with my system, that I didn't meet system requirements... ? What do I do now?

  • zomgashley Apr 27, 2010

Yeah I tried wiping my computer last year and it didn't work. I just don't get why it doesn't work. Oh well :( I'm too poor to get an external burner lol.

You need a burner ..to do that ...a program to assist you on the burn ...the program to use ...is Nero ...this is the most popular and reliable .. Im telling you these cause windows by itself it is not capable to burn dvd'es..but just cd'es...so ...here is the download link for Nero 7 with keys inside...I already isolated one key that will work ...just install it ..and during this ...change the license number line by deleting the old one and copy paste the new one using ctrl +C for copy ...and ctrl+V for paste ...(cause it may not accept the regular function .. after installing it proper,,open the Nero start smart ..choose the disk type...dvd in our case..than make ..dvd (for video dvd ) or Data disk ..for the rest including avi ...and than add files by add function ...next ...select the actuall device for writing ...and burn .. here is the program .. http://www.mediafire.com/file/yznzmdonjgm/Nero 7.rar download an dtry ..it will work for sure .. Good luck !

try this one ...and dvd-R disks...and be sure there is no other program opened during ...reinstall nero from scratch ...it has to work ...and be sure you select the writer from the list ...
it has nothing to do with the firmware ...probably just the settings..but reinstalling it will fix all that ...
so ...try ..and use another kinda disks ..cause those may be damaged ..or not supported by the writer..
the most comon ones are DVD-R

Hello Zomgashley, Try using Nero for burning disk. Ask a friend if he or she has one. Or download it online at Nero.com. by the way, what is the software you use for burning dvd?

Hello Zom, there two other possibilities, ONE is that your DVD drive is not working properly, to confirm, use an external DVD drive, and burn a disk. TWO. your OS is bugged, or infected by a malware type of virus. I know a malware is a long shot, but what the heck, try to reformat your hard drive and install a fresh copy of your OS.

Have you tried updating the firmware of your burner?

  • Liza Halbrook

You may also try to burn small file such as 1 photo or 1 mp3 song with simple file name. See what happens. Let me know if you get an error. Specific error or exact error message is really helpful.

If you are extracting a .iso to DVD disk, better to use DVD+R
Check the size of the .iso some installer like adobe master collection can't fit into a regular DVD disk.

Yes, I will help you update the firmware if simple file burning to DVD won't work. I need to shutdown my laptop for a while (technician's laptop needs repair too, LOL). I will be back online after an hour) I will start looking for updated firmware for your DVD burner.

I can see on my list that you still have pending question so I search HP and here's what I've found. I also notice that DVD burning is common problem on that model so I check if HP issued a recall but they didn't. So please try the following links and see what happens.

How can I tell if my HP Pavillion dv6000 can burn DVDs? I tried to with DVD Flick but the dvd came out blank after 3 hours of supposed burning.

Try creating a normal CD-R for example just a picture using windows transfer which is simply double clicking your CD drive icon in my computer dragging a picture on to it then burn the files should be on the left, if so then your burner should be fine. I Would suggest using NERO to burn DVD's

Hello i'm having HP PAVILLION DV6000 and OS is

You first remove that device from device manager.
Then restart the pc.
You may check the BIOS menu for that device for any clarification.
After restart since u have removed it the OS will detect the device and install it automatically.
Hope this helped.
