My everex stepnote laptop will not connect to the internet per wireless now. Will connect via cable. See all wireless connection, but just continue to search and search and fail cnnection. Error message...

You may have a driver problem. First, simply try to set up a new wireless connection. If that doesn't work, try this.
While hardwired go to:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng
(just copy and paste into address bar of browser if necessary, or type it as one long string.
Under "products" choose "wireless networking". Under "Operating System", find your specific O.S.
Under "Download Type", choose "drivers". Then scroll down to find the drivers you need.
Download and install the driver package
If this doesn't work, repost with more information concerning the make, model of your computer, type of operating system, and be very specific. Give as much info as possible

Installation instructions:
Immediate Installation/Upgrade of Drivers on Local Machine
To install or update on this machine now, click 'Install Now' below or use standard OS installation methods

To Install or Update Later:
1. Click Start, Run and then browse to the directory where you extracted this archive.
2. Double click Setup.exe and click OK. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the install.
3. Right Click on "My Network Places, Choose properties and finish configuring your network.

Manual installation:
1. Click the My Computer and choose Properties, From Hardware tab, choose Device Manager.
2. Right click on Network Adapters and choose scan for hardware changes.
3. The Plug and Play Wizard should pop up. Follow instructions but don't select an Intel adapter from the list. Click on Have Disk.
4. Enter the path to the directory where you extracted this archive and click OK. Then follow the instructions to install the drivers. When the adapter is added, it appears in the Network adapters list.
5. Click OK and then Close. If prompted, restart Windows.

Optional Manual Update
1. Click the My Computer and choose Properties, From Hardware tab, choose Device Manager.
2. Right click on the adapter you wish to update under Network Adapters and choose Properties.
3. From the Driver Tab of the pop up, click the Update button.
4. Enter the path to the directory where you extracted this archive and click OK.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions to update the drivers.

NOTE: If you are installing a driver in a computer with existing Intel adapters, be sure to update all adapters with the same new software. This will ensure that all adapters will function correctly.

Troubleshooting
-Make sure that you use the drivers from this archive.

- When updating base drivers, if PROSet was installed, PROSet needs to be updated also. If you have downloaded the minimum Web Pak, you will need to download the full Web Pak to obtain the updated PROSet files before being able to access the PROSet application.

-In your computer's BIOS settings, make sure "Plug and Play OS" is set to YES.

-Make sure the driver is loaded and the protocols are bound.

-Check the Windows* Event Viewer for error messages.

-If you are attaching to a NetWare* network, check your frame type and verify that NetWare client or server software has been installed.

-Test the adapter with the Intel PROSet advanced configuration utility or with the DOS diagnostic provided in the Tools Directory contained in this archive.

-Check with your LAN administrator - you may need to install supplemental networking software.

Intel(R) PROSet II
To start Intel PROSet II, double-click the Intel PROSet icon found either in the lower right hand corner of the screen or go to Start/Settings/Control Panel/Intel PROSET II. To run diagnostics, select the adapter and click the Diagnostics tab, then click Run Tests. For additional information, click Help in the Intel PROSet window.
If this doesn't help go here:
http://www.piriform.com/speccy
Download and install the software. This will tell you everything you need to know about your computing environment that you will need to know to repost the question and get a definitive answer.
Open Device Manager (Start > Control panel > Hardware > Device Manager), look for anything that has a ?, or a yellow triangle w/an exclamation mark ( ! ). Make note of it in your next post.
Good luck
If this helps you resolve your problem, please
consider giving me a rating of 4.It will help me
as well. Thank you.

Something wrong with software causing wireless connection issues

Make sure you are using the application that came with your computer to work with the wireless card. The windows embedded application is a generic program. The application that comes with your computer/wireless card will work better or is made to work with that adapter. You can turn off the windows wireless zero configuration by going to:

Start -> Run -> Type "services.msc" hit enter

Scroll down to the bottom and right click on Wireless Zero Configuration and click Stop.

Use the Intel PROset Wireless application which are used in most Dells.

If you are stilling having problems, try uninstalling the PROset Wireless Application, Updating the Wireless Drivers and Reinstalling the PROset Wireless App.

How do I turn the radio on the wireless card

When your computer is switched on, the WiFi radio is almost always transmitting or receiving signals. In certain situations, as in an airplane, signals from the radio may cause interference. Use the following methods if you need to disable the radio and use your notebook without emitting radio signals.
Use the Optional Computer Radio On or Off Switch

If your computer has an external switch installed, use it to switch the WiFi radio on or off. See the computer manufacturer for more information about this switch. If you have Intel® PROSet/Wireless installed, the current state of the radio displays in the Intel PROSet/Wireless main window and on the Taskbar.

Use Intel PROSet/Wireless to Switch the WiFi Radio On or Off

From Intel PROSet/Wireless, the WiFi radio can be switched on or off. The status icon on Intel PROSet/Wireless displays the current state of the radio.

To start Intel® PROSet/Wireless, use one of the following methods:
  • Click Start > Programs > Intel PROSet Wireless > WiFi Connection Utility.
  • Right-click the Taskbar icon prosettaskbaricon1.jpg located in the lower right corner of your Windows* Desktop to open the Taskbar menu. Click Configure WiFi.
  • Double-click the Taskbar icon to open Intel PROSet/Wireless.
Switch the WiFi Radio On or Off from the Taskbar Icon

To switch the WiFi radio on or off, click the Taskbar icon image1_ipswtaskbaricon.jpg and select WiFi On or WiFi Off.

How to use the Device Manager to Disable the WiFi Radio

The WiFi radio can be disabled (made non-functional) from the Windows* Device Manager.

Note: If you disabled the WiFi radio from Windows*, then you must use Windows to turn the radio on. You cannot use a hardware switch or Intel PROSet/Wireless to enable the radio again.

Windows* XP
  1. From your desktop, right-click My Computer.
  2. Click Properties.
  3. Click Hardware.
  4. Click Device Manager.
  5. Double-click Network adapters and expand the selection by clicking the Plus symbol.

Intel proset says no physical wifi adapter is installed

Left click start, left click control panel, left click power options, left click hibernate tab, uncheck enable hibernate, click apply, left click power schemes tab, set every selection under the plugged in category to never then click apply close the control panel. This is just to test internet connection to see if it continues to disconnect from the internet. It won't hurt to visit support.dell.com enter the tag number for your laptop and download the most recent driver for your Intel Proset Wireless Card and any recent updated driver updates if there are any listed. After downloading the new driver and you've performed the test of allowing the laptop to sit with hibernation disabled a while all selections under power schemes set to never. The laptop should not go into hibernate, thus should not disconnect from the internet. Downloading the newest driver is just another suggestion to resolve the issue.

Intel proset wireless 3945ABG no adapters found

You need to disable the Windows Wireless manager in order for the Intel app to take over control of the wireless adapter.

Start
Run
"services.msc"

Find a service called "Windows Zero Wireless Configuration". Stop it. Set it to disable.

Try rebooting the machine and the Intel app should work.
