1.Check your hard drive.
that's where the information for Windows resides.
2. check your video card / removing it and replacing it with a know good video graphic card will let you isolate the issue more.
3. check the cable ( vga) to the
4. monitor >>>go to another computer and connect video cable to the computer. if you get a display then you know the monitor is OK.
5. Isolate each component of each path.

My acer aspire m1640 crashed and now when i turn it on nothing happens the monitor says no signal

Sound like a bad motherboard. You are getting the error because no signal is been sent to the monitor. Make sure the memory is inserted properly and firmly. Check all other cards and plugs are all inserted and firmly sitted. and try to boot the system, if nothing stll happen, you may have a bad motherboard

When I turn on the power and nothing comes up on the screen. It is white/gray and has a grayish area on the right

There are 3 possible causes for this problem. 1. the screen is faulty and doesn't understand the signal sent to it by the motherboard. 2. the video chip on the motherboard is faulty and it's not sending a signal the LCD can understand. 3. The LCD cable has a short in it and it it distorting the signal sent by the motherboard. More than likely you will either need a screen or a motherboard replaced. I would suggest trying and external monitor to see if you get any video there. If so I would say you have a screen problem, if not then I would say you have a motherboard problem.

this happened because you downloaded and installed a trial version of windows 7.You will need to buy the full version for the program to work properly.Just get the disk insert it,restart the computer and go to the setup menu. There you will be able to install the program.

Dell Vostro 1220 shutdown/restart problem

Frankly speaking, Vostro has many intermittent issue like slow start-up, application error during shutdown or restart. Sometimes it even crashed with our co antivirus, acrobat writer etc..

We have reported many cases to DELL but unfortuntely no fix solution. We have at least 5 machines out of 20 reported similar issue.

Tell you, the best is to upgrade to Latitude if you budget permit. No point wasting time on this.

Unofficially, dell engineer told our IT engineer that vostro has many problem and not really suitable for office use... that is why the price so cheap...

From my true heart. good luck!

Firefox reports that it has a problem and crashed.

If you will take to my advice.

You might have to uninstall firefox and delete all files and folders that works with it.

Restart your system and redownload the firefox explorer. Get its latest update.

Cheers.

System won't complete the RESTART process

Do a check disk (chkdsk) using either:

1) Go to My Computer > right click on the drive with windows that won't boot > click properties > go to tools tab > click error checking > tick both boxes and click check now > it will say windows needs to restart, allow it too.

OR

2) Boot up using the installation disk... I will need the OS version (XP, Vista etc.) to tell you how to do that.

Motherboard

Hi,
One of the greatest factor in intermittent shutdowns is because of heat issues. try to check the fans if they are all spinning. if all fan's are ok then you only need to replace the motherboard. here's a manual that might come in handy http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim5100/en/sm/index.htm

Hope this helps.

thanks
