I have seen a similar question before. Look up the wire schematics and see what that wire is for. The sire schematics usually come with the dryer.

I have a junction box with a 3 way switch that operates hall lights, and a 2 way switch that operates outdoor lights. I want to replace the 2 way with the Woods timer (59018). I tried following...

Remove timer, and reconnect both switches as they were before starting.
Notice if there is a wire that connects to both switches... this will be the Hot wire.
Then notice that the 2-way switch has two wires.
One wire will be Hot > and this wire connects to timer Black wire.
And the other wire goes to Load (light) > and this wire connects to timer red wire.
The timer green wire connects to bare ground wires.
This leaves the timer White wire > you can connect timer White wire with the other ground wires.... > or look in the back of switch box to notice a group of white wires covered with wire nut > connect timer White wire to these other white wires.

What I do is basically remove the drum and look for signs of lint. I clean it all up then check all the components removing a wire from each to get a good read. After you made dang sure all of them thangs have continuity you need to first make sure you have 240 volts going into the machine. The motor on dryers is 120 volt and runs on a separate circuit from the 5000 watt 240 volt heating element. So the dryer will run if the cord is bad or not connect corect OR the circuit breaker is bad OR tripped due to some sort of shorted wiring in the receptacle OR a bad receptacle. So after you know that is fine you gotta check the timer. Find the thick red wire going into the timer from the heating circuit (usually marked RH) remove it from the timer. Set the timer on a heating circuit like cotton or permapress and check between that terminal of the timer and all other terminals on the timer. If you cannot get a reading then your timer is fried inside and is in need of replacement. Google Roper dryer no heat and my video will show up. I did a couple on youtube. Estate dryer also on my youtube channel is a nice video. I have service manuals also on my youtube channel.

I put a new heating element in and I'm not sure about the wiring on the bottom

Your 2 red wires power the element whilst that orange wire feeds
the timer motor when that element ain't in use. You can't mix the 2 red ones up.

I have a roper dryer. I took it apart today

Remove all duct work connected to this dryer. Clean thoroughly. You will find amass of lint inside of it causing your problem. If not the moister sensor is not working properly and needs to be replaced.
I do hope you will find a clogged vent tube for it is easier to clean the tube than to replace the sensor. The sensor is a fail safe part. It keeps the dryer from catching on fire when the lint tube is clogged up

Changing from 3 to 4 wire hookup on a electric dryer:
Power cord help for 3 & 4 prong dryer cords
This is an example of a three wire connection dryer cord hookup. Notice that there is a ground strap connected from the common center terminal to the frame of the terminal block. Place the center wire of the cord on the center terminal [ one with the ground ******** it ] and the other two wires will be placed on the outer terminals and it doesn't matter which wire goes right or left. Get the center wire of the cord right and you are in business.
This is an example of the 4 wire dryer cord hookup. Notice that the ground strap has been removed from the terminal block frame and folded back onto the center terminal for storage. You can see the colors of the other hookups. TIP: White always to the middle.
