Question about Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

I have a ge gsh25jsta ss refrigerator. The main problem is that its not cooling enough, both freezer and fridge. Now ive been reading alot and i still have alot of questions. Things I've done so far: last night i vacuumed and cleaned dust behind and under the fridge but nothing. Now today i took everything out of the freezer and removed panel behind the freezer and the coils are covered with ice. What do i do from then? Thank you!!!

Hi,

This is Phil and I will be assisting. It is apparent that you have a failure in the defrost cycle.

We need to remove the frost using hot water or a hair dryer and lots of towels, Unplug the refrigerator while doing this.

Next we will need to determine which component failed. I will tell you what to check in the next note I will send shortly, while I am composing that note I need you to recheck your model number from the tag that is located on the bottom rail that is visible when you open the fresh food door. The number I have here is not coming up as a refrigerator.

Thank you

    Hi,
    Phil here again,

There are 3 components that are used in the defrost cycle.

#1 and most common to fail is the heat element. It is located on the bottom of those frosted up evaporator coils. It can be checked by an ohmmeter and should read between 10 and 100 ohms. It can also be inspected and sometimes see a break in it.

#2 and fairly common is the defrost terminator sometime called a bi-metal or defrost thermostat. This component is located on the top of the coils and turns the heater off when the frost is gone. The ohm meter reading on this component should be 0 when cold, if it looks broken or bulging out it is bad.

#3 and not as likely to fail is the defrost control this is either manual or electronic depending on your model and has an internal clock that counts the run time, every 8 -10 hours of running it turns off the cooling and starts the defrost cycle, it also will not let the defrost cycle run more than 25 minutes. If the other 2 parts are good this control is bad

    Hi,

The heater part number is WR51X10055 and looks like this.

The terminator is part number WR50X10065 and is a cylinder about the diameter of a quarter and in inch or so in height with 2 wires coming out of it.

The defrost control is located in the back of the refrigerator is part number WR55X10942

My refigerator and freezer are not cooling enough

You could call for service. It is commonly possible that there was a loss of gas, or the thermostat is defective, or the compressor is weak. The refridgeration service man should be able to check for all of this.
