You can probably use the front panel buttons (STOP PLAY OPEN/CLOSE etc) manually, the only thing you cannot do without the remote is access certain DVD menus, including subtitles/language/special features etc. You can always obtain and use a universal remote for basic menu functions later on if necessary.
To play a DVD movie without the remote, simply load your preferred disc, wait for the player to finish reading its contents, then to skip copyright warnings and/or the 'play movie' menu screen, press STOP, then PLAY, or simply press PLAY button where 'play movie' (or whatever function) is highlighted in the menu. These buttons should be on the front of the main unit. Doing this should encourage the player to detect the appropriate title (the movie) and play it (basic playback operation may not be possible with some DVD releases due to the numerous interactive menus and title pages, such as film trailers).
If basic manual operation is not completely possible with some DVD titles, consider a universal remote for your player if you have either lost your original, or the player was purchased/received without one. Such remotes are relatively inexpensive to purchase, and are available just about everywhere.
After the movie loads and shows "play" highlighted. And only then, press the stop button and then press the play button and the movie should play...hope this helps.
This SMPK8858 is just an Audio MP3 player and not an MP4 Video player - Sorry but you CANNOT PLAY VIDEO on it! The Audio file formats supported areMP3 , WAV , WMA , FLAC , APE
The problem can be with your scanning lens that might be dirty.Clean your PS2 lens first.Watch this video to learn how to clean PS2 lens.
Always keep your PS2 in clean place. If lens cleaning wont work then try following trick.Click to view it.Although its for PS2 DVD movies but you can try it to play God of War too. Good luck!
I would beg, borrow, rent a hi8 camcorder or player and try a second cam to see if it's the tape or the camera. If it's the camera then you'lll still be able to off load your movies, but if your tapes don't play on the second machine, you're probably out of luck. Try a second camera!
You may need to check for updates for your particular blu-ray player from the manufacturer's website... many companies are sending out patches you need to download to play more current movies... check it out, that may be all you need...
Sorry not a solution but experienced the same problem. The problem started off the same as you described by now my player won't play DVDs at all. Seems that the laser is faulty and it is cost prohibitive to repair (it's sold as a complete module which would be around £100). I've been advised to replace it :-(
