How to remove write protect on my usb flash drive

My mp3 player does'nt want to accept files or delete them.
When i send files to it,it says it is write protected

Sansa Express SanDisk 1.0 GB
Product Code: BB0704UIB

Hi Guys, urgent solution required,

I use three different USB portable tools, storage drives, flash drives & memory sticks, never had the problem before but I now cannot delete, remove, copy, add or transfer files etc, I experience exactly the same situation where a message box indicates that the device is write protected pls remove or use another disc, cant find a solution, there are no switches, what should I do, I tried to find the solution through my computor device mananger but there is nothing there to indicate a problem, Please help, I need these tools for my work.

problem exists on all my portable drives and memory sticks, it is not confined to just the one.

  • maguip Apr 02, 2008

hi, I do not use an mp3 player, my concerns are with my portable drivers, none of them have lock/unlock facility, the problem I believe is with the laptop as all the portable drivers and flash drives are having the same problem.
what should I look at on the laptop, where should I go.? as I wrote I cannot copy, delete transfer etc from any of my drivers, however all drivers work on my desk top without any problem.

  • maguip Apr 03, 2008

I have tried ADMIN login and still have the same reponse, I can open everything on my FREECOM and WD Hdrives but I cant rename, delete etc as I have mentioned before. Completely perplexed, just dont know what to do????????

  • maguip Apr 03, 2008

No discs involved here, only portable drives, no lock/unlocks, works OK on my desktop no problems, can do everything, cant do anything on my laptop, read only it seems, no delete, no rename, no transfer etc, always "write protection on" pls remove or use another drive box displayed. cant remove the write protection??????

Hi,

Here is the solution to your problem:

On your memory stick, there is a "Lock/Unlock" slide bar on the opposite end of it. It uses the symbols of a "lock" and an "open hasp lock" to show that the device is "locked" (write-protected) or "unlocked" or not write-protected.

There is a same lock in the USB flash drive.

Now coming to the Mp3 player.Make sure that your mp3 is not in the "pause" mode. I must have put in on pause my mistake and I wasn't able to do anything with it, play, copy music or delete. All I did was push my pause/play button once to get it to play mode and have had no problems. It was such an easy fix if you don't have the 'switch' on the side.

Goodluck,
Please don't forget to rate the solution.

This is due to some kind of virus ibn your system

to comfirm this try those devices in another system of same kind and just confirm that these drives work with other system or not,.

if they work with other system then there problem with your side.

this may be some virus that is not allowing you to transfer data trough USB ports.
else this may be some problem in *********** board which is not able to transfer data trough your USB port.
else may be your OS problem.

just isolate the problem first. then you can solve it with ease.

  • dewan nafees ahmed Apr 02, 2008

ok then try a different login.. preferably ADMIN login by booting into safe mode..

then try to use the drives..

even if it is not working then try reinstalling your OS if you are comfortable with that..

The player shows up as removable storage when connected to the PC...correct?

If this happens to all devices then there is a problem with either your computer/USB cable/or USB port. Did you try another cable and USB port?

There should be a very small slide switch along the edge of the card. Sliding this one way will lock (write protect) or unlock the card.

There is a software on internet, it is FREE of charge, it is called unlocker, it's a simple installation that lets you delete, rename, move any file/folder, just right-click the desired file/folder, go to"Unlocker" the image is a wand, and select the option you want.. works for me. good luck. hope this helps
