Question about Dishwashers
Have a hotpoint fdw60 dishwasher which wont start wash cycle and then goes on to eco wash but doesnt start, eco light just stays flashing .This is one of the only codes not in book and woman at hotpoint says have to get an engineer out .any ideas what this problem is?
I had this problem too, but discovered the cause and the remedy.
The flashing eco light signifies that the drain sump has water in it. Before the machine takes on water it checks a float located in the sump. If the float says that there is water in the sump then the machine presumes that there has been a problem when draining and decides not to take on any more water.
In my particular case, the sump collected extra water after the machine has last drained itself because the bottom spray arm has come off and allowed some water to enter the machine. Make sure that you check that!
The simple solution is to empty the sump of water. Do this by tipping the machine onto its right side. Warning! You will get wet feet! There was about a 1/4 pint of water in my dishwasher.
After that you should find that your dishwasher works perfectly again! Why Hotpoint couldn't include this simple task in their manual I'll never know! Health & Safety I guess...

I would like to thank Philhusbands for his advice on flashing eco light. After being told by hotpoint i would need an engineer plus call out fee. i decided to take a quick look on internet & to my surprise found this artical. So after reading it i did as advised & tipped my dishwasher to one side low & behold water came gushing out. After several minutes of mopping tried selecting programme again & it's working !!Yippee so than you who ever you are.

Brilliant, I just fixed the flashing 4th and 6th light problem - 2 new heater elements later (2ND ONE IS A HOTPOINT PART (£50) - 1ST one lasted 2 months and was an inferior , cheaper (£35) pattern part - do not use) , then came up against the Eco light - tipped on side, worked straight away. 3 year old machine , £85 worth of parts, my labour, think I'll buy Meile next time!!

I solved this by removing the filters and simply soaking the excess water out with a tea towel. Worked a treat , only a couple of mins and no need to move the dishwasher

Just a words of grateful thanks to Philhusbands for letting us know how to fix this "Eco" light problem. As he said: pull out dishwasher, tip it over onto the RHS, get wet feet!!!, stand it upright again, re-install it, and..... Bingo... all systems go! THANK YOU, PHIL!

Excellent solutions on here. I didn't pull the dishwasher out I used a sponge and a bucket it did the same thing and I kept my feet dry. Just soak up the water around the sump at the bottom. It worked a treat.

Just had the same problem with my FDW60, after an engineer from General "fixing it" 2 hours earlier...cured 3 faults and still left me with a dishwasher not working. Called to see if he would come back and told "No" and then told would have to wait till Thursday as a light was flashing it was a fault but could not say what! Paying General over £200 a year to repair my appliances and having to wait over 2 weeks! Luckily found this post and problem solved!! Thank you ever so.....would have had dish pan hands soon.
