I consulter the owners manual for this model. This is what they suggest.

First, remove all of the air from the cleaner head and stop all air from entering the pool through the return lines. Also, if the head and hose are covered with bubbles, give the hose a good tug. This will release the air bubbles and allow the pool cleaners to settle son the bottom of the pool. Also, the cleaner head may actually be being lifted off the bottom of the pool by the hose or the pressure in the return lines. Make sure that the hose stays untangled and the pressure from the return lines is not too low (not enought pressure to power) or too high (too much pressure that cause the unit to lift off the floor).

Interesting question. Do you have the special Lead Hose, the one with a colored cuff attached to the Navigator itself? Other causes can be, too little or too much hose, a pinhole leak in one of the hoses above water causing the hoses to float, not enough suction on the Navigator. You didn't say if you have the Navigator plugged into a skimmer or in a dedicated suction port in the wall. I would first try increasing the suction to the unit and see if your problem doesn't go away.

My navigator is like brand new and strong suction, but it just won't move around.

If you are getting suction through the cleaner, but it is not moving around, you probably have wings or shoes improperly installed. If the pool cleaners shoes look worn or are not installed properly, this will happen. A copy of the users manual is below. Check to make sure that they are installed properly. You might also need to adjust the rear tension flap. Finally, even though you think your suction is good, make sure that there are no obstructions or leaks that would cause movement failure.

I have a Haywood Navigator pool cleaner that climbs the pool wall to a highth that it loses suction and it falls backward into the pool and loses prime, How do I resolve this?

Make sure that your shoes and wings are installed properly and not worn. This is the most common issue with these pool cleaners. Improper water flow could also be the problem. Check with the water flow gauge. Make sure there is no blockage in the cleaner's throat and that there is proper tension in the rear flap.

Doesnot climb walls or move around bottom

Some things to look for:
1. Make sure all hoses are connected, to each other and to the skimmer/vacuum port.
2. Make sure you're getting plenty of flow through the hose. Remove the hose from the cleaner an, carefully, check to make sure you're getting good suction. If you don't feel much suction at the hose end, disconnect one section at a time, until you find one with good suction. The last section removed probably has something stuck in it.
3. If you have good suction at the hose end (when checking tip #2) turn cleaner over to determine that nothing is lodged in the opening and preventing the turbine from turning. It doesn't take much to stop the turbine. Twigs, palm leaves or other heavy leaves, small animals, small pebbles, etc.
Another thing to consider is the age of the cleaner. These cleaners need to be "tuned-up" every 12-18 months. I usually replace the pads, pods, turbine, wings, flags and A-frame in a tune-up.

My Hayward Navigator fails to get out of corners and climbs straight up a wall and remains in this positon. I have adjusted the suction flow to no avail.

Check your shoes and wings to make sure that they are not worn and don't have debris lodged in them. Make sure that your hose is the proper length and doesn't have obstructions. It could also be a steering failure. To check for steering failure, make sure that your rear screen is clean, make sure your cone gears are free and clean, and make sure that your gear box is clean and working properly. It is common for these pool cleaners to have one of these problems. Also, make sure that you have the proper tension in your rear flap.

We bought new feet for the navigator and put them on and it won't climb the walls we tried to to change the seetings to number 3 and it still won't climb.

you'll need to increase the suction so it will climb. If it used to climb before and now it won't, even with new feet, it may be a bearing problem with either the turbine or the A-frames. You may have to get a turbine kit with a-frames to make it work like new again.

My navigator is suctioning however when it hits a wall it simply stays there and won't turn around any more.

With these automatic pool cleaners, it is often a problem with the water flow not being correct. Test your cleaner to make sure that the water flow is coming out properly. Adjust the water flow gauge if necessary. Make sure that the shoes and wings are in good shape and not functioning properly. Make sure that the rear screen if clear or debris. Make sure that the cone gear rotates freely in both directions. If none of these work, you might have to replace your gear box.

My pool navigator will not stay at the bottom its always coming to the top to clean and hovers there.

if by saying at the top you mean running around the top of the walls then reduce the suction on the vacuum by opening another valve slightly... if by at the top you mean floating around in the water then make sure the vacuum is getting enough suction.... it can be a number of issues causing loss of suction but most likely is going to be too many sources on suction side of pump.

The vacuum is moving very slow and not climbing walls

Several things can cause these problems with the Hayward pool cleaner. First, check for improper water flow (which can be adjusted with the flow gauge that comes with your cleaner). Partial blockage of the navigator throat can also cause both of these problems and should be cleared if found. Worn shoes or worn wings can also cause both problems. In addition, there are two other things that could be causing it not to climb (but won't really affect how fast it moves). Check to make sure that the hose isn't too short and that there is not improper ension in the rear flap. Hope this helps. let me know if you have any more questions.
