Question about D-Link DES 1005D (DES-1005D) 5x10/100 Mbps Networking Switch

Setting up a small network using DSL and a DLink router

I just switched from Buckeye Cable High Speed internet to ATT DSL Internet Access. I have a small network consisting of a Windows 2000 Server, 3 pc's (1-Windows 2000, 1-Vista, 1-Windows XP) I have a DLink DSS-24 port router. How do I get all pc's and server to share internet access using my router. I can only get one pc (Vista) to connect to the internet connected to the Westell modem not through the router. I also need to share the files on the server and none of the pc's can see the shared drive. From what I understand with the DLink there is no configuration needed but need to use PPPOE for my DSL connection.

Any advise on how to get this all to work.

1.) The setup needs changing
2.) first off the dss-24 is a network switch not a router
3.) all of your pc equipment should be pluged into that device.
4.) chose one port as an uplink to your att modem
I think your problem is that the new modem is only giving out one ip address. So what ever first pc is turned on that is the one that grabs the address.
5.) you will most likly need a router to take the one ip address assigned via att then dole out additional ones. Remember the dss-24 is not a router. It simply connects everyone together. Each device still needs an ip address given from somewhere. Your old cable modem probibly did that but your new att dsl most likly does not.hence the new router will do that.....
to set it up do the following
2.) Find out the ip setup needed for your dsl service
A.) gateway ip
B.) primary & secondary dns server ip`s
C.) subnet mask
3.) get into the setup of your new router and then plugg in
all of these values using a fixed if address in the router
4.) connect routers wan port to one of the modems port. u may have to use a cross cable or straight look at the link lites to find out if they are talking to each other
5.) make sure that the routers lan side is setup for DHCP
6.) connect one lan port off the router to an uplink
of the dss-24. Then reboot everything
7.) viola it should all work internet on evey machine and file sharring.

try connecting to another location like the public library. it could be that your router security setting may be set too high.

Wireless networks - 29
Installation speed and simplicity Installing a wireless LAN system can be fast and easy and eliminates the need to pull cables through walls and ceilings. Components of a wireless LAN To set up your Wireless network at home you need to have the following:

Access point (router)
Access points (routers) are two-way transceivers that broadcast data into the surrounding environment. Access points act as a mediator between wired and wireless network. Most routers have a built-in DSL modem that will allow you access to a high speed DSL internet connection. The ISP (Internet Service Provider) you have chosen normally supplies a modem/router with the subscription to their services. Read carefully the documentation supplied
with your Access point/router for detailed setup instructions

Where is the wireless switch on the dell vostro 200

Unlike notebook computers, most desktops don't come with wireless networking built in. I can't find any mention on Dell's site that the Vostro 200 has wireless capability, so this computer doesn't have a wireless switch. To use your desktop computer on a wireless network, you'll need to install a wireless adapter. USB adapters are very easy to use since you just have to plug them in. They're not expensive and you can easily find them at retail stores and online.

I have ATT internet service using a USB device( no DSL or cable wires/lines, just plug in the USB into the port, that's it). I also have a wireless printer that is setup with a DLink router. When I print...

In order for you to print on that particular printer, your computer and the printer need to be on the same network. That is the only way it will work. So, either connect your computer to that Dlink router or connect your printer directly to your computer and browse internet from USB ATT.

Hope this helps.

Internet connection keeps on dropping

Can't seem to find the manual on it but....
Most DSL/Routers have a connection setting in them with 2 settings.
1) On demand (Connects to internet as needed)
2) Always on (Stays connected to the internet)

Sounds like your DSL/Router is set to option 1

Whilst the router is turned on, try to reset the router by pressing and holding the tiny reset button at the back of our dlink router using a paperclip. Then try again.

Two pc connection by dlink switch

connect the router to the switch using any port-it does not matter which port you use. Connect each computer to any port on the switch-it matters not. The router will assign IP address to the computer as they are added.

DONE!!!

Good Luck

Cant share internet using a router

Hi There, what model of dlink router do you have?
Also, Or just check the ports you have in your router, the internet should be connected to the WAN port and the switch and/or computers to the LAN port(s).
If the router is new by default you should be able to access internet by plug everything the way I told you.
Also, by default the router ip address should be 192.168.1.1, type that into your web browser address bar, then you will have access to the router admin web page were you can see the status page, there will tell you if you have or not access to Internet really. Maybe the problem is that the router have no access internet access at all.
