Hello Keilabb,
I am sorry to hear you are having a problem with your dvd player, but hopefully the following advice will help you correct the problem. The following are some common reasons why dvd players fail to read a disc or give you some type of error code such as "bad disc", "no disc", "disc failure", etc.

1. The disc is scratched or dirty- If discs have scratches, pits, or are dirty (finger prints are the most common cause) then the laser that reads the data on the discs will be unable to properly read the data. This commonly happens with older discs, but can happen if you rent from a movie store. If you hold the disc up to the light and tilt it back and forth you will be able to see any defects. If this is happening to ALL your discs then it may be your Optical Lens. The following link to my tips and tricks will provide you with instructions on how to clean your discs and give you other suggestions to keep them in good working order.

2. The Optical Lens is dirty- If the optical lens over time will accumulate dust and dirty on them. This component is where the laser comes through to read the disc data. It will present with the same errors that I mentioned above and usually will happen with every disc you try either old or new. The following link will take you to my tips and tricks section and give you details on how to clean it manually and offer other suggestions to help keep your dvd player operating in good working order. The following example picture will give you an idea of what the optical lens looks like:
It wont play DVD's anymore - fe73536.jpg

3. The Spindle Motor has malfunctioned- The spindle and motor are the components that spin the disc. The disc must spin in order for the laser to read the data on the disc. If you listen closely when you insert the disc and close the tray, you should be able to hear the disc spin up. If you do not hear anything, or you hear the disc start and stop over and over and sometimes a squealing type noise, then the spindle motor is most likely at fault. The following link to my tips and tricks will give you more details on the most common mechanical failures of dvd players with pictures so that you will be able to see what these and many other components look like. It also provides you with other information such as average part and labor cost. I never like to suggest people try and fix an in depth problem that do not feel comfortable or have experience working with electronics or sensitive devices, because it if done incorrectly can cause further damage to the device and personal injury.

4. The Laser assembly has malfunctioned- This is basically the laser and it's components. This failure is not as common as the others, but it does happen. If the laser is not firing properly it will not read the disc data. You will also find this in the link provided in number 3.

I believe the problem in your case is most likely either 1 or 2, so try those solutions first. I am sorry for the long post, but I like to provide as much information as possible so that everyone I try to help are fully informed of the possible causes and help them find a solution to their problem. I hope that helps solve the issue you are having and please let me know if you need further assistance and I will be more than happy to help in any way I can.

Remember to ensure your safety when working inside any electrical device due to shock hazards (even when electronic devices are unplugged, they can still deliver a shock because Capacitors hold an electrical charge for some time even when power has been removed). When dealing with lasers, never look directly into them because they can cause eye damage. I wish you all the best

If you would not mind, please rate my help. I would greatly appreciate it. Thank You

Technika combi unit dvd player wont read discs anymore

Hello,

how long have you been using this player? I suspect the laser (lens) of the player. I think the laser (lens) is weak that's why it cannot read data/files on DVD discs.

To confirm if actually its a laser problem, insert an Audio CD into the player and see if will play. If it plays, then obviously, your laser (lens) is weak. But if it doesn't play Audio CD, then it might still be the laser (lens) or a mechanism problem.

Get a lens cleaner, use it to clean the lens. If that doesn't solve the problem, get a screw driver, open the player's cover so that you can gain access to the lens, use a cotton board to clean the surface of the lens. This should clean dust or dirt that might be on the lens.

If non of the above solves the problem, then know that you need to replace the laser to a brand new one.

To replace the lens, remove the bad laser, use it as a sample to get exactly the same type and do the replacement. Note that replacing a laser (lens) needs a professional touch, so if you cannot replace the laser, get it to a repairman to fix it for you.

Once this us done, your player will play all DVD discs again.

Regards.

JLMS DVD-ROM XJ-HD166 DVD/CD ROM Drive does not acknowledge disc in drive after having the computer set back to factory

Does it not acknowledge dvd disc only or cd or dvd both. If it doesn't read the dvd disc, or able to play dvd disc, but able to exlpore regular cd's, then you have a codec error, and you need to download a dvd codec like powerdvd for it for your system to play dvd disc. Check to see if your dvd-rom drive appears in the "my computer" window, if it is there, but wouldn't be able to play anything, then it could be a driver issue. so make sure in the hardware , the drivers is installed and working properly. If it is working properly and driver is installed, then you got a bad drive, the optical laser lenses isnt reading or the spindle ain't working anymore if you don't hear disc being loaded when inserting the disc.

My portable dvd player is not working good

It sounds like U have a bad lens. Try a lens cleaner. If it is the lens, it wont read anymore discs. Sometimes it will also make a clicking sound and show disc error/no disc cryptic messages on the screen.

Cd player reads disc error

maybe you need to change the optical eye now.
but first try to adjust the variable resistor/trimpot resistor.
try this options to your player.

(TIP)
if using a cd/vcd/dvd products, we only should play a cd/vcd/dvd dics without a bad scratches. the scratches are making the optical eye worn-out easily.
